I seriously could have listened to this man lecture for hours. He is incredibly knowlegeable and eager to engage with his students. If you're not a Politics major, don't count on an A though. As a Humanities student, I'd take the A-/B+ again to listen to his knowledge about America's founding.

Very fair, but as mentioned- do NOT take his course if you are liberal at all. Especially when the part of the course on roles of family, women, etc. He is not hostile towards anyone, but he WILL know if you did not read your Tocqueville.

I took several classes from Dr. West, and I always found him to be fair, helpful, and funny. I disagree with the person who complained about West's antiliberalism. I am a liberal, and I had better debates with Dr. West than with any of my other teachers. He appreciated my challenges and rebuttals, and my oral comps went beautifully with him.

not a hard class, but if you're a liberal, you should probably take a different prof - his anti-liberalism stance is at times hard to swallow. he's more than willing to help if you have trouble with anything, and is pretty fair-but very conservative.plus he uses his own writings as a main class text

There is a lot of reading, but it is selected and normally very interesting. If you do the reading and study you will do fine. He is a picky grader, have quotes. Obsessed with Locke. His book is great. You put in the effort and it will pay off.

Easy Easy class--just repeat what he say 100 times and you get an A. Has some insightful ideas, but he repeats these over and over again and stretches them to areas where they are irrelevant. Usually interesting though.
