Comment:
Spots for undergrads in his directing class are a commodity with good cause. Bass is highly intelligent and attacks the nature of screen direction aggressively to help students understand more than just camera angles. He grades fairly, caring more about effort and expression than test scores. Every film student deserves at least one of his classes.

Unorganized lectures. Drones on and on in a monotone voice. Good luck learning anything if you're a beginner.

Comment:
I found the lectures very unstructured and disorganized. Because of the technical nature of the class, this made learning more difficult. This class was mandatory for the first semester of the program but should be offered much later, once basic photography concepts are mastered by less costly means than film.

Professor Bass is a hard grader, and his lectures make you fall asleep...BUT he does know his stuff. If you see him in the hallway and ask a question he will stop what he is doing to answer you. It's important to have professors that actually want you to come out of their course ABSORBING the information taught. Nice, approachable guy.

Had him for animation in the summer. enjoyed the class. don't have to be a good drawer but you do have to want to know the history of animation. thats what the tests will be on so take notes. don't take any other class in summer, it will be too much.you will have a GREAT appreciation for animation by the end. you will learn time management as well.

Difficult, yet fair and EXTEMELY helpful, instructor. And, the difficulty could have more to do with my own shortcomings as a student. While he is obviously confident, he is extremely approachable and eager to help. He let my partner and I use his OWN equipment when I botched our equipment reservation and the equipment office refused to help.

Very knowledgeable about film and animation. He is very nice, and helpful. When I was in need of equipment, he let me use his own personal equipment. Very committed teacher. His summer class is great. Attendance isn't stressed so much as quality of work.

This is my second class with him and like him just as much as last year! He's smart and I've learned that he has an amazing background in the film which makes his modest demeanor even more admirable! Don't leave Temple without taking a class with him!

I really like him! I've never met anyone who knows more about film, and yet isn’t at all pretentious! He’ll gladly answer any questions you have but will never hold your hand. Impressive teaching career, and one of the absolute best at Temple! He also screens great stuff!

For the love of God, if you want to have a meaningful experience at Temple, take Warren's Directing class. It is great and chopped full on information. It's great for film and theater students alike. And Warren himself, although quiet and shy, is a very sweet, approachable man. He offers valuable criticism and praise.

Bass is pretty cool. He does talk alot, and he is a wealth of knowledge. He is really into lists and testing you on them (what are 4 things you can do to increase depth of field?). He's good at giving partial credit on exams. Good luck with shooting on the Bolex- YIPE. Make sure the light meter you check out isn't f*$#@ed up.

Warren Bass is a living film encyclopedia - all good film things come from him. He does talk alot here and there, but somehow, you manage to take it all in and use his methods. Great teacher and a nice man, too. If you have the opportunity, take one of his classes. You'll be a better filmmaker for it.

I hated the class, his boring lectures, his superiority complex, and the smug grin that never seems to leave his face. He verbally assaulted my final project in filmmaking because of the acting, saying nothing about the actual technique - what we spent the whole semester listening to him ramble on about. Definitely would not take him again.

I had him twice. He is a great proffessor and knows alot. I definately recommend him. I also think that everyone in his classes should bring a tape recorder because he does go fast at times and you will miss one of his elements on a list, luckily he gives study sheets. Definately take him if you hav

He was awesome and the TA Sunali Gulati was great too. I would recommend taking Prof Bass' class and switching to Sunali's section. She makes you think why you want to make films to begin with. They rock as a team!
