He says we're gonna learn how to operate and use professional film equipment? We end up wasting four weeks doing INVENTORY for him. We didn't get to use any school resources when filming our shortfilm my group managed to scrounge up money to buy "meh" level equipment, but after we all pour our heart soul and lots of time into it we barely pass.

Comment:
As a person, cool guy, however as a teacher not so cool. This was the hardest class I've ever taken. If you're looking for an easy grade avoid this one. The homework amount is ridiculous. I definitely felt he was holding us up to university standards. Sometimes you can't tell of he's serious or being sarcastic.

If you have the wit and fortitude to make it through the second or third week, this class is well worth your time. If you are lazy or a whiner, you will just become a more effective layabout and whiner. If not, you will learn ALOT from this professor. Hated him at first, would like to have beers with him now.

Baker is a very challenging teacher. His number one motto for the class will be "Think Critically." If you do not want to be involved, drop out. We started with 35, we ended with 15. Discussions are often, and in Socratic form (back and forth between student and teacher, & student to student) Baker is a great teacher, I loved this class!

Don't take this class. He doesn't explain anything. He has his own little world and he expects you to flow with it even though he tells you NOTHING on what he expects of you. If you have ANY question what so ever, this will be his response: "Refer to the syllabus"....no matter if the question you have is in it or not. Hard. Didn't learn much either

I took this class during my first quarter ever going into college. It was not easy. If you plan on taking this only do 2 classes in a quarter if you have the choice. Most people rate him as a bad teacher because they don't want to work hard. Also asking questions are not off limits, ask questions! Rewarding overall.

I would not suggest this class to anyone. Baker does not explain anything and expects you to know everything. The only thing you learn how to do is to fundraise for a local nonprofit. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Also i did not use the 3 text books we needed to purchase.

Comment:
It is not unreasonable to expect college-level work out of college students. Having to write essays every week as well as 2 large research papers was as challenging as it was rewarding for me. Easily the most informative, provocative, and terrifying class I've ever taken. The teacher is amazing as long as you have a twisted sense of humor like him.

During this quarter I experienced a powerful identity crises, lost my job, my friends, my strongest beliefs and way of life. I have also found hope and faith in the potential of all humans, learned selflessness, love and purpose. I strongly encourage anyone regardless of social or economic background to take this class with an open mind and heart.

This class is not "easy" by any means but it makes you think and you will learn if you try. Class starts out with a heavy workload and eases up by the end of the class, even many extra credit opportunities at the end. at first i wanted to drop the class but i'm glad i didn't. Hard work but if you plan on transfering to a four year, it is great prep

Awful! If you are able to absolutely nothing else in your life but focus 120% of your time to his assignments you might do ok. Don't take this course from him if you have other classes. Expects way too much time from people. Simply awful class!

Some of these past reviews for Dr. Baker are quite frightening. However, so far he is challenging us fiercely, and teaching us thoroughly. These assignments are difficult because they mean something. They are life changing, and I look forward to the deep inner growth that will result, and is resulting, from this class.

Comment:
Baker has gotten a lot of bad reviews likely due to the fact that he pushes his students to think on their own and take their own initiative. It is true Baker is passionate about filmmaking. Show some of that passion back rather than focusing on how many points this or that is worth, and you'll be fine & may even learn something.

Ok first i will start off my saying that I personally hate mr. Baker and most people who have taken his classes share this opinion. He frequently makes his students produce allen baker screen plays. he has given students F's who helped him produce his movies out side of class and over worked them and didn't feed them cos they were non union

I took this class three years ago and was appalled by his lack of teaching skills. Reading the other posts he has not changed. I had hoped that after taking a sabbatical he would have left teaching and went into film making - his true interest. He truly demonstrates no interest in teaching or learning to occur.

Comment:
This professor is not a horrible person. He is actually quite passionate about filmmaking. However, he does not have a passion for teaching. He has no compassion for the students and said he simply does not care what grade we get. If you want to pass a class, don't take this one. If you want to do a lot of work and learn nothing, take this class.
