Class involed a lot of reading and writing. He took attendance and factored that into grading. The mid terms and final were big in class essays that asked too much. He is a nice guy and cares about the class but should have focused more on facts and learning of students. Extra credit is available. Map quizzes easy. Become a teachers pet.

I loved this class. So much information, so many ideas, such an eye-opener. Latin American literature is amazing and Latin American history is very intertwined with ours (US). I can't recommend this class enough, but be prepared to engage in class discussion, DO NOT MISS CLASS EVER, and expect to do a fair share of reading, researching and writing

I thought it was very English based, not humanities based. I expected to learn a lot more of the history of Latin America, where in this class, it was about diagnosing books and stories that were set in Latin America, much like an English class would do. A lot of reading & writing!

Don is a great guy, and he is most definitely liberal about class time spent discussing what YOU are having trouble with. He is incredibly well-read and throughout whatever course you are taking with him, you will likely get something recommended to you. His finals and essays aren't the easiest, but he is up for one-on-one office discussion.

This class made me sick by how politically correct it was. I got the feeling that because I am a white Christian male I am responsible for the world's problems. Despite my distaste for the class Don Johnson knows his stuff and is very helpful when it comes to writing papers and such. Attendance is key here.

Don made clear things i don't think any other professor could have about world ideologies and imperialism. Great class 88 percent of the class is spent watching and analyzing imperialistic films

Don was fabulous instructor! We spent the quarter writing about a specific commodity (of our choice). He would spend extra time chatting about our direction and offer very good suggestions. He was very clear with his instructions and expectations...easy listening. He expected alot and pushed you to achieve, but isn't that what college is about!

Took several classes from him, he was one of the best teachers I've had. He makes sure that you understand the subject and offers a lot of help. Learned a lot from him and his classes were always interesting. Didn't get off subject too much, and is one of the best teachers at SPSCC.

This class is very difficult if you're not into politics because a lot of the writing, lecturing, and discussions revolve around politics. If you follow his writing criteria you can get a good grade. But you have to work very dilligently at it.

Very picky. You write, he grades, then he expects you to improve based on his previous comments and grading. Very little actual instruction going on. Tells what to improve on but not how to improve on it Carries a bright yellow bag that hurts my eyes.

Great Class, great teaching style. Encourages individual thought, and not a lot of teachers do that. Great reading material, class discussions, and grading policy. I learned a lot, and felt good about going to class every day.

Comment:
Classes are boring, and tend to be sickeningly Politically Correct. He does, however, have extensive experience in the subjects he teaches, and brings in excellent guest-lecturers. He requires lots of writing.
