Comment:
Kummel was more difficult than I expected. His tests are deceptively hard and he goes very fast. I found the practice exams somewhat helpful, but I relied primarily on my own independent study from the book to understand major concepts.

While Kummel makes a lot of jokes to keep people awake at 8am the teaching style wasn't one that lead to a good understanding of the material. He uses a lot of analogies, I barely got any of them. Going to lecture felt like a routine stand up comedy act, but in a different language. Had a 3.9 going in left with a 3.8 coming out. Not recommended.

Gives a ton of practice exams that are nearly identical to real exams, slides are posted online and handed out in class, makes direct and indirect connections between concepts learned in class and interesting demos/you tube videos/jokes. Went out of way to host online review sessions. If you like food references and good professors, take his class.

I loved having Kummel. The practice tests were the key to doing well in the class. The curve at the end helped as well. Just don't try to wing it.

He is a great professor overall, and his lectures are very informational and entertaining for a 8am. However, his exams are less numerical and more conceptual/ situational. Reading the textbook before his lectures is highly recommended, as he'll go over material beyond the textbook and expect you to understand it for exam day.

Dr. Kummel is one of the few professors that will basically make 2 study sessions/ practice exams before an exam. He also makes Zoom Telecons and really demonstrates his dedication to the class. However, I just did not adjust well with his teaching style and found his tests to be extremely hard.

Professor Kummel is honestly the most respected professor I have had so far. However, as a professor, he just does not do a great job at teaching the material. I stopped going to lecture after week4 because they were pointless. The analogies were funny but not too helpful. I'm telling you right now, if you want a high grade, take a different class.

Kummel is a good professor. He provides three practice exams and two review sessions per midterm and before the test. He cares about his students' academic. However, his tests are extremely hard. No joke. Heavy concept and math problems that he expects you to know well. No matter how hard I studied for his tests, I didn't score well.

I skipped almost all lectures since I work off campus and dont find myself motivated to wake up for 8ams every other day. Kummels lecture slides are vague after taking the midterms. The questions on exams are very situational. Youre better off finding a different professor or teaching yourself this course for 10 weeks.

Kummels lecture slides summarize key points in each chapter section, but the midterms and final are MUCH more specific and situational. Practicing a TON of sample problems is the best tip I can give you. While the practice midterms online are similar to the actual ones in its format, the questions are still difficult. Avoid taking this class.

Comment:
There were 3 midterms - it felt like there was always an upcoming test. Additionally, Prof Kummel expects you to come to class with an understanding of that day's lecture from the textbook so do the readings. There are clicker questions but they are extra credit. He makes a ton of jokes & does demos every lecture to try to keep you awake at 8am.

Professor Kummel's a good guy, he's funny and he really tries his best to teach the best he can, but if you dont do well with listening to lecture for 70 minutes, you lose focus and this lectures dont help. his exams are usually really different then what you learn in class so its really difficult to do well on them. overall avoid him if you can

He's a smart guy but can't communicate his knowledge very well. He goes through the information too quickly and never goes into detail, rarely explaining stuff that's important for the 3 MIDTERMS (and final). You're better off reading the textbook and his slides, not worth getting up at 8 am. Pro: midterms are similar to practice ones

He's funny if you have his sense of humor. The lectures are fast and pretty vague as he expects that you have read the textbook before class. He also does pretty cool demos every class to keep everyone awake at 8 am.

Lectures go really fast and pretty vaguely, heavily reliant on reading the chapter before class yourself. Mostly a self-teach class and also has one of the hardest tests I've ever seen. He is very knowledgeable, just not great at teaching basics before specifics.

He doesn't have podcast. Gives a lot of practice questions. However, he will talk about some random extra stuff that's not on the chapter and expect you to remember it (It will appear on the tests). He expects you to read the textbook in advance so his lecture is fast. And if you don't remember everything he said, I'm sorry. But he is a great prof.

Professor Kummel is great! He explains things crystal clear and genuinely cares for all students! Though the class is early in the morning, he makes everyone concentrate by his jokes and demos. Practice exams are really helpful and his grading policies are not too harsh. Definitely take him if you can wake up early!

His lecture begins at 8:00, but since he has jokes and funny videos, you never feel sleepy. He explains things well and always spends the first 20 mins to review. His midterms are not easy, but he gives you three practice midterms which are 60% similar to the actual. If you take his 6B, don't skip the lecture, do practice midterms, and sleep well!

Tests were the most insane thing ever. Still, if it wasn't for those tests, I wouldn't have been prepared for CHEM 6C. Study his practice tests word for word. Go to office hours. Lectures are early in the morning so beware. He loves to test us on conceptual chemistry so study more of that. If you want to actually learn chemistry, take Dr. Kummel.

He's a really chill teacher and funny but his tests have no chill. He uploads notes and practice tests online, along with hosting 2 practice exams before every test but its still pretty hard for those who arent good with chem. Half the questions are conceptual and the other half are math based. Good luck if you have his class.
