Comment:

Dr. Allen really knows what he is talking about in organic chem which he drills into you making it seem like a hard class but, in the long run was useful. In Environmental Chem however, he talked more about his life instead of teaching. He also had the class teach a few times which noone paid attention to because they were worried about their own.

Comment:

He is difficult, but if you do the homework and read the chapters you should be okay. Organic imply covers quite a bit of material, so studying often is a necessity to do well in his classes! Also, he is helpful in his office hours so go by if you don't understand something. I have gained respect for this professor throughout the academic year.

He is very opinionated and if you disagree with him then his opinion of you changes. He does not teach anything that will be on the test...which is really annoying to go to class but to not learn anything helpful

He's hard - he has incredible expectations for his students. Yeah he can be rude and make you feel completely stupid, but he will help if you ask and as time goes, he'll respect you as you earn it. He likes to make it fun every once in a while too. Do what you're supposed to do and read and do homework. Little points add up.

Organic chem is hard in itself this guy makes it extremely difficult. He might be the most intelligent teacher in the department but he is by far the worst "teacher". If your views are different from his forget it then your seen as unintelligent. Take Jones he actually cares if his students learn the material.

he loves to teach how to make meth... he requires homework done, but its not what is on the test... the book will explain more than this man ever will. his organic classes will be the "worst days of your life" but he's pretty laid back in all his other classes...

Okay, so organic (I/II) chemistry isn't really that easy and I'm slightly terrified of Dr. Allen, but I defend his class every chance I get. You got quizzes to make sure you read, you may have to redo labs, and the tests are HARD, but you learn so much. If you are taking organic for a chem major then I would suggest you pick him for your benefit.

Through three years at Tech and five at the University of Florida Dr. Allen remains the most challenging professor I've ever encountered. He was also the best, and the one that inspired me the most. I owe my Doctorate to him, as he showed me the way to think critically not only about chemistry but also life in general.

Dr. Allen is super intelligent. It takes a special person to understand him and like his teaching methods. But he is a wonderful teacher, willing to help you understand concepts but very opinionated. Either put up with his opinions or voice your own with him. He enjoys feedback and debates. don't be intimidated by him. he's a nice guy!

He pushed me to do better. I learned more in two semesters from this guy than probably all other chem classes that I had at ATU. Because of him, I ended up going to graduate school in chemistry, earning a doctorate. I owe all of my success to the fact that he pushed me to be my best. Some are intimidated by his methods. People say this guy is hard, but the truth of the matter is that Organic Chemistry in itself is what's hard. To do well, you have to read the chapters, pay attention in class, and ASK QUESTIONS. i thought he was really interesting and i learned a lot.
