Comment:

Teaches how to correctly write a speech. Tells you exactly how it will be graded, down to the point. He was not as strict on the first speech as far as grading, gave you a chance to fix things on the next ones. Stick to the outline format. Challening quizzes, but on blackbooard. Best part only 3 speeches! Good experience and I dreaded speech.

Comment:

I needed this class for my major, and needed a B. I got a C because of ridiculous point reductions on speeches (which he doesn't explain AT ALL). If you show up and listen, you'll be fine. The book is needed for the final, literally every question is "according to your textbook..." The class should be common sense, but he doesn't make it that way.

Comment:

Professor Hyden is a straightforward guy, come to class, listen and you'll be fine. Tests aren't too difficult and he'll help you with whatever you need, provided you meet him halfway and put in the effort necessary. He's honest and to the point, coming to class will get you all the information you need. I definitely recommend him.

I don't know why everyone is giving him bad ratings. He is not the easiest grader in the world, but he definitely provides you with a substantial amount of material to help you do well on tests and speeches. There are only three speeches in this class, and all of the tests including the final are on BlackBoard, so that's good.

He is way too critical for a 100 level class. Very full of himself, not very nice, extremely tough grader. The class material itself isn't that bad, but if your speeches are not PERFECT, expect bad grades. DO NOT take him if you are bad at public speaking.

Most of the class time he just lectures which is only boring because I was in a 3 hour class. He is very strict on grading and attendance. You only have 3 speeches but he grades you like you are a professional speaker. If you are not very charismatic, do not take this class with him.

He is very into himself and loves hearing his own voice. During speeches, he looks at you like you are an idiot or you are disfigured. Follow the outline form he gives you very closely and make sure you have visual aids. He is a super hard grader on speeches.

Class is long and boring. The most you hear from your classmates is during the speeches, every other class he's just talking. Harsh grader on speeches. He's very particular like "Keep both feet on the ground". I wouldn't take this speech class from him if you can find another professor.

Nice guy. A little boring but not too bad, because some of the material was interesting. Hard grader on speeches!!! I felt i deserved better on all of them. Exams aren't too hard. I had him in a night class and we always got out early.

He is an Extremely hard grader, you must do well on your speeches. the worst was the final exam of 24 pages 250 questions. That was brutal the class is very boring if you don't have the right students attending it. I'm glad I do not have ot take this class again.

You can definitely tell he's a bit in love with himself, but not enough to detract from the material. Take the course only if you're serious about it. He is kind of a harsh grader, and a bit inconsistent. For instance, my first of three speeches was B material for a first try, but I got a C. But then Stuttering Guy gets a B. Go figure.

I WARN YOU TO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He calls himself a communications teacher and yet when i went to argue my grade he couldnt say anything. Hes a pretty harsh grader on the 3 speeches and the outline he takes very serisouly. He also doesnt kno that there is something called a thesaurus. Take the wrkshts seriously. The guy is way to full of himself.

Comment:

From the words of another student in the class and not my own, "I hope I never have that professor again..." The worst professor I have ever had. Aside from the comments listed here, the class seemed to be on the same level and he was giving most people I talked with harsh grades. Places way too much emphasis on an outline rather than the speech.

Has a lot of experience with speech and communication. Two test, but both are relatively easy as long as you go over the material. A fair grader on the three speeches you give, but is helpful if you have any questions. A little boring, the speeches are a welcome break to the mototony.

He is a nice guy who knows what he is talking about. An easy GenEd. The work really isn't hard to do. Just come to class though because he takes off a letter grade for every missed class after the first!!
