Comment:

Took his Beatles class, didn't like them before and now I love the Beatles! The lectures are a full hour and 40 min, but they're so interesting. You listen to a lot of their songs and watch a couple of their movies in class. There's 4 "listening assignments" music papers but really easy. Great guy. Also, he's a stickler about phone being out.

Comment:

Carl is a very nice guy who is clearly knowledgeable about the content that he is teaching but he doesn't know how to express it through his tests and assignments. The grading rubric for the listening assignments was very confusing.I put a lot of time and effort into the class and received a very disappointing grade.

Carl is awesome, Ive had him for three different classes just because I love his teaching style. Test material is taken directly from his powerpoints, so you'll pass easily if you study from them (which are all posted online). Participation is not required, you could skip every class and still pass, but his classes are so interesting you want to go

I loved his class and can't wait to take another class with him. He's passionate about music and it shows in his lectures. Just don't use your phone in class.

The teacher is cool for being an old guy you think would be a hard grader. If you follow the criteria for the assignments getting 100% isn't very difficult. The tests are not hard but there are some questions that are difficult. It isn't a hard class, but also not easy A.

Realize how lucky you are or can be to take a class with Prof Woideck. I'm 40+ years out of college, but have spoken with Carl several times and attended some of his local shows. He's a wealth of info and passionate about his love of jazz. Most importantly, he cares. He doesn't mail it in and count his days to retirement.

Really sweet. Reminds me of the guy from the friends episode where Ross has to tour two professors and one is hot and the other is super boring...he's the boring one. He's really nice and interested in the subject but moves slow and kind of does his own thing with it. Also there is just a lot of reading. But none of that makes his class hard.

The class was interesting but the tests had a ton of trivia and facts that were brushed over during class. I thought it was going to be an easy A, was wrong there. Don't take his class unless you are truly interested in the subject. Would not take again.

He likes to ramble on about stuff that doesn't matter to the subject or appear on the tests. His grading system is flawed, I lost points on my assignments for not using "emotional words" but I did. I've been playing Jazz for 8 years now, much of the course was second nature to me. But in the end his grading scheme was terrible.

Prof. Woideck is respectful, knowledgable, passionate and helpful person. The class is very interesting and entertaining. He has tons of knowledge in all kinds of music.I really like to hear that I met this musician in xxxx,which makes me try to estimate how old he is. The homework and tests are really easy!! An easy A class. Highky recommend.

Carl's class was awesome. This was by far the most entertaining class I've ever taken at U of O. We listened to rock music for the majority of every class. Take this if you are looking for an easy, relaxing class.

Easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is passionate and knowledgable about what he teaches and loves it when students ask questions and give their opinions. He always throws in a few pop culture jokes here and there, and the subject itself is facinating. If you get a chance, take a class with Carl!
