Comment:
Dr. Martin has been one of my favorite teachers at Chapman. She is honest and caring and is well respected in the classroom. You can tell she is wise beyond her years. Do not use your phone in class. Participation is important if you want her to really like you. Two papers, one 5 page the other 10 page, a midterm and a final. Fun discussions.

She has almost pop quiz every week. She has really heavy lectures and even expects you to know everything from it. It's really hard to follow her class. The most important is her tests has nothing to do with her study guide. Sometimes she doesn't speaks loud, could not hear. Try your best to avoid her class, this is the worst class i've ever take.

Very knowledgeable prof. Lectures weren't very structured, relied on students' participation to move them along. No attendence taken but classes were dense and it was smart to attend. Very tough grader.

I have taken several classes with Dr. Martin and have thoroughly enjoyed each one. She really has a gift for teaching and engages her students beyond the bare minimum of class time and office hours. Her classes have really shaped my perspectives on world religions and global ethics, and I highly recommend her.

She is knowledgeable but "teaches" her class solely through long, dry, and incredibly boring lectures, often eluding to completely irrelevant stories of whatever religion she happens to be discussing. Around 100-200 pages of reading for each exam along with pop quizzes weekly. Her lectures DO NOT prepare you for the test AT ALL.

Her lectures are incredibly hard to follow. She expects you to know a lot of information, so much so that it's nearly impossible. She means well, but she isn't the best at making the material approachable to students.

I found her very off-putting and frustrating. I think she means well, but she can't understand how to convey her ideas in a way that makes sense to the students. She gives quizzes daily, so you can't skip the reading. Her lectures jump back and forth a lot but are essential to the exams- if you don't take good notes you're screwed.

Worst professor I have ever dealt with. Her lectures are dense and often have very little to do with what you actually end up being tested on. It'ts just a GE and is by far my hardest class. Avoid her at all costs.

Tell the world: DO NOT take this professor. There is 65+ pages of textbook reading, in addition to 40-50 pages of blackboard reading...per week. Her lectures do not cover the material, and she expects them to be memorized. You will be tested on EVERYTHING-litterally. She also gives weekly quizzes. tests are short answer & essay. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

SHE IS THE WORST PROFFESOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Do not take her class. So boring. No PowerPoint during lecture. It was my last GE class and it's harder than any other class I have ever taken. She's boring and lectures DO NOT pertain to the tests.

She's passionate about what she teaches but she is very sensitive to people speaking up and interrupting or going on facebook while she teaches. sometimes, she monitors the class to see who might be using facebook. she rarely replies to her emails and expects students to solve problems on their own. She's the most selfish teacher i've dealt with!

She is passionate about what she teaches but is not helpful in class. If you like to stay quite in class and listen this is not the class for you. It is almost like she expects you to be as informed about the subjects as she is so her lectures are heavy and quick. She does not speak loud so its difficult to listen. Overall the class is hard.

She is a nice lady, she isn't the best teacher. She is a tough grader and expects everyone to easily understand the subject matter, even though this is new information since this is an intro class. She can be kind of helpful though; the review for our midterm was useful. She is very knowledgable, but not great at teaching the information.

Martin's class was excruciating to sit through. She is very knowledgeable about the subject matter however makes no effort to make it at all interesting or engaging. There was WAY too much reading and she is a very tough grader!!

This class was a bore. Professor Martin is even more of a bore. She just talks and talks and talks during class, and its really hard to pay attention. She has travelled the world and written a bunch of books and other stuff...she'll make sure you know that by the end of the semester. There was a ridiculous amount of reading.

AMAZING WOMAN! I've taken a few classes with her and learn so much. She made me love the subject matter and is extremely helpful if you just ask. She's a little quiet, and some people consider her boring but I think she is the most engaging teacher I've had. Please don't miss the opportunity to have such a wonderful teacher.

Ew. Such a boring class and she seemed like she could careless about her students wanting to learn or enjoy the subject matter. Lots of reading. Study guides were good. Just take another professor if you actually want to learn the subject matter.

Really not a terrible teacher. Granted, class WAS boring and the reading could be seen as tedious, but she was VERY specific about material covered on her two tests and if you pay attention to the concepts she stresses, you'll have no problem in the class. Her open minded view of all religions is pleasant and fair. Her grading is also reasonable.

Awful teacher. I don't think she wants to be there. Her lectures are VERY boring and she doesn't care about her students. She focuses on her research and it shows in her willingness to help students, cancelling class last minute w/little apology or explanation. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.
