Comment:
One of the most difficult (and most interesting) classes I have ever taken. Southwell is very smart and makes class interesting but good lord. Grade is based off of 3 tests. If you do poorly on either of the first two there is no chance of doing well in the class.

PS 350 with Priscilla was based off of 4 quizzes and a final test. The final test was not clear on requirements, other than that the course was easy.

Your grade consists of three tests total (worth 40%, 40%, and 20% of your grade) do well on the first two and she likely wont make you take the final. Super chill and interesting lectures with a fair amount of reading, but the tests are super easy if you just minimally study or pay attention in class.

PS 201 is an easy online class with Southwell. 18 quizzes of 25 questions that are taken at your own pace, and one 8-10 page opinion paper that you can pretty much write whatever you want about. Easy to find something to talk about during election season. I would take this! I'm a PS major fulfilling my lower-division requirements and this was great

This was by far my favorite PS class I've taken at UO so far. It really helped that it was during an election because it brought the material to life. Southwell is EASY, the reading is heavy but not all is necessary. Prof is smart and very, very, very willing to help (you can literally go up to her during a test). Take this class! I loved it.

all this class is, is reading the text book and taking quizzes based on each chapter. If you have self discipline this class will be easy. The final is scary because its 50% of the grade but the material is easy and she curves the final grade.

Online quizzes were super easy and you can do them at your pace. Highly recommend this class, but the final is the only tricky part.

There were 18 online quizzes (25 questions and 30 minutes to take it, 2 attempts) and one final you had to go in and take. I believe most failed the final so there was a big curve

I took PS 204 from Professor Southwell online last term, and I couldn't believe the differences between the two. PS 204 was very manageable, with about 2 hours of reading and one to two short online tests per week. PS 205 had close to 6 hours of reading with an average of two extremely specific 55-question tests per week. Take this class in person.

She's definitely a lecturer. The class was fairly small, only 30-40 people but it was my first lecture style class ever and it scared the crap out of me because I thought all lecture professors would be like her. She flies through what she's teaching, so don't expect to be able to take clear notes. But she is a good professor and posts the lecture.

WORST ONLINE COURSE! I've been taking online course at UO for the last 3 years. They have been great easy and time efficient, considering I work for a living they have been a life saver. She gives you a quiz per week 60 questions, 60... They are specific to the text, not in order. You would have to memorize word for word to pass this class.

Pretty interesting class, although attending the lectures was almost unnecessary, since the bulk of what we learned was in the hundreds of pages of required reading. Prof Southwell knows her stuff and she is engaging to those who engage with her independently... however, her tangential lecturing sometimes has the tendency to become sleep-inducing.

Under no circumstance take this course. The powerpoint slides are useless, along with her jumbled and confusing lectures. Three test grades make up the entire percentage of your grade and she doesn't give study guides or reviews for them. The worst part is that she doesn't give you back your test grades until the term is over. Find another course.

This was a pretty clear-cut course. Read a chapter, take an online quiz. It's just fine to take this course as an online course since it's all rudimentary stuff. I had no interaction with her in the term, and that didn't matter. Taking online International Relations from her next term.

Moves very fast in lecture, but she is easy to understand and tests were more than generous. After one idiot complained of a take home exam she worked with us and gave us the choice of how to take the final. No mandatory attendance, and slides posted online.

Very fast lectures, goes off on a lot of tangents, jumps around through slides, hard to follow esp when she talks so fast, given way too much information (all readings/lectures/movies fair game for tests), not focused enough on points that really matter, tests on general ideas, hard to take anything away from the material, tons of reading.

Talked way to fast in lectures, near impossible to take any notes. Learned more from the 1 lecture by a graduate student then the whole term from her. Very opinionated in both lectures and grading. Have to say what she wants to hear in order to get a good grade.
