There's a lot of work but the assignments are reasonable and she's a fair grader. I enjoyed the class and would definitely recommend to others.

Professor Somerville really knows her stuff. She is very nice when you meet with her individually and she will help you if you are lost. Her lectures are chock full of information, so you really have to be able to sift and find the main points. Not the easiest professor, but you will learn a lot from her.

Professor Somerville is one of the best professors at Hunter College, certainly the best I have had for a political science class. I agree with one previous comment: if you're going to take a global issues class, you should be interested in global issues. Professor Somerville engages the class in interesting discussions and is a fair grader.

Honestly & easily one of the best at Hunter. Teaches & knows her stuff & kept the class light even though the topic was heavy (Africa: War & Peace). Midterm, final, group presentation, research paper (35 sources; it's not that bad!), oral report & attendance. Learned so much with her & she's basically brilliant. Grades easily too!

LOVED HER! she's such a sweet professor, jokes around with students, really easy going class and for a 300 level class- wasn't difficult at all! my ONLY complaint about her is that she takes notes on a projector and sometimes chicken scratch looks better than her writing so it'll definitely be hard to read

This has been my favorite political science class yet. Prof Somerville is helpful, tries to engage the class in dialogue, and really knows her stuff. Need to read & comprehend material to keep up. The texts she uses are straightforward and very readable. Really enjoyed having her as a prof this semester. Recommended, and would take her again.

I see the same pattern with most students who review professors on this site. Don't be lazy then complain when you fail. She is not a horrible teacher, she is not a horrible grader, and she is not unhelpful. I've always had a positive experience with Somerville--non-intimidating environment, friendly, and supportive. There are worst out there.

Professor Somerville is a decent professor. She lectures for the entire class, at times stopping to answer questions, but goes over interesting concepts and tries to shake class up by giving you group exercises that were pretty fun. She's helpful if you ask direct questions and attempt to get feedback.

Not a very helpful professor. World Issues was the most useless class I've taken, she did nothing, really, we taught the class and she never graded us until the final grade. She trusted students who are not political science majors to teach the class and assign really poor readings. I was better off just reading the newspaper everyday.

I think you must be interested in the area of political science to fully enjoy prof. somerville. She's brilliant if you know your material and engage in discussions. However, if youre an average student only wanting to fill the GER, i don't recommend somerville.

This professor is the worst! I didn't wait for her to ruin my grades. She speaks so fast she is incomprehensible. Worst class I have ever taken. She knows her stuff but cannot teach and makes things difficult. Please avoid her by all means possible. You have been warned.

By far she is one of Hunter's best, so knowledgeable, gives you the inside scoope, important details that people often leave out, various viewpoints, she will challenge you, she has high expectations. I took her class over the summer and its is very intense, she gave a list of 100 questions to study and randomly gave 3/100 on exam NO EXAGGERATION.

Very good professor, second time I have her and she is worth it. She is very helpful and clear on what she wants. This class all we had to do is present certain presentations on a topic we picked and hand in a 20 page paper. However, do not take her if you don't want to do work. But if you are interested in learned about Foreign Policies then do

One of the best professors I have ever had. Do not take her classes if you are not excited to learn and ready to do some hard work. This is not for people who expect to get an A in everything, but for people who are genuinely interested in understanding on a higher level. She moves fast with no bull/no fluff. This is what college should be like.

if you are interested in the topic and are willing to come to class, write a 15 page (in the 200 and 300 level classes) research paper and study very well for an exam, then take her classes. i was and i came out of her classes with a much better knowledge and understanding. enjoyed her very much, took three of her classes.

Prof. Somerville was one of my favorite professors at Hunter. She gives great notes and is very knowledgeable. You ask her about anything and she will know. You must read chapters because you only have one midterm/final exam. So if you read it in timely fashion you will do great. You have to write a 15 pg. essay and do a 5min presentation on it.

If you want to spend your spring break studying for a comprehensive exam and writing a research paper, be my guest. Writes as if she's on speed while you take notes. Lectures have neither hand or foot...a complete mess. Otherwise, nice lady.

Another professor with high expectations of her students...that's how it should be. Very direct, and will not tolerate foolishness or lame excuses. As tough as her classes are, you will learn plenty if you give yourself the opportunity to do so.

Trust me, do not take this teacher. Is absent alot, does not grade fairly, did not even take the strike in consideration, does not return work, does not engage the class, GOES TOO FAST, does not get to the point. If you were wondering, I got a B+. Overall evaluation, 4/10
