DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! WORST PROF I HAVE HAD (and that is putting him ahead of a MSU professor that falsely accused me of plagiarism). Rovey does nothing to help students. This is a 100 level course and he treats it like a 300-400 level. According to him, you need to study 3 hours outside of class for every hour in class. He needs a reality check.

This is the worst class I have ever taken and should not be this hard for a gen-ed. His lectures are so BORING and I struggled to stay awake. He gives random quizzes for attendance, so you have to be there. His tests are EXTREMELY HARD! If you have to have glg take another professor! His corny jokes will also make you cringe.

Comment:

Charles Rovey is by far one of the worst professors I have ever had at Missouri State. He spends more time cracking stupid jokes then he does teaching, and he really had no clue what he is doing. I have had all As throughout college and will officially say this is by far the hardest class I have yet to take. DO NO TAKE HIM!!!!! Will Lower GPA!

doesnt teach what he tests over, but if he does then it isn't completely accurate or clear. Had to teach myself practically all the units using the text. Frequent online assignments/quizzes from textbook. Gives study guides but hands them out the class before test. Monotone voice. Get another prof if possible, but still manageable.

Most boring professor on this entire campus. Grades way too harshly for a gen ed class, and doesn't cover all of the material in class that will be on the test. Does random pop quizzes.

Very cute old man. Cracks the occasional jokes and they're so bad they're good. Tests aren't too bad if you study- class avg is usually a B-. Doesn't put slides online so you have to go to class. Need at least the online textbook to do hw assignments. Random "quizes" in class for attendance purposes- super easy... show up and you'll get easy points

The man can't lecture or stay on topic, his voice is so monotone that you have to fight to pay attention. He complicates the material instead of actually explaining it to his students.

Very hard to understand, doesn't explain things very well. Sometimes gave in class assignments, so you have to go to class in order to pass. Very confusing grader, everything was out of 100 points in the gradebook, even a 2 question pop quiz. Overall, material was not hard. If you study and go to class, you can get an easy A.

One of the worst teachers I've ever had. To be fair, his study guides do help you for his insanely hard tests. However they don't come in handy when there are topics that he definitely didn't cover in lecture. He even admits that he didn't have enough time to get through an entire power point "so you better read the book". Don't take his class.

he is a nice guy. bad teacher, bad at explaning the course. test are worded terrebly and are very hard. i got a 44 percent on the first test and i studied my ass off. i was use to getting good grades until i started taking his class.

The material can be a bit dry, and I had some trouble following his lectures, but mostly because I couldn't stop staring at his moustache. I want to ride it. Seriously though, he's awkward but charming, and he's hilarious!

It is not the easiest gen ed course. You will have to attend all lectures, read the textbook, and study quite a bit. While it was a rather dry subject, as long as you try hard and do those 3 things, you can do well. I did and I got an A. He definitely knew a lot about the subject!

Highly recommend you take GLG-171 with a different teacher. His level of awkwardness is almost a distraction, and he will not look at you when he talks to you- he acts as if he is intimidated to speak in front of the students. As for grades, I got A's on all tests with a lot of studying. He gives dreadful lectures and leaves no room for questions

Professor Rovey is a horrible teacher. He refuses to help you when you have a question. His teaching methods are not up to date. With his material, I was getting 70s on tests; when I used my suitemate's notes from her GLG class, I got 90s on tests. Do not take him if you care for your GPA; he sets his classes up for failure.

If you want to be treated like a mindless child by all means take his class. You would love him. However, if you don't want to sit through painfully dumbed down lectures with a professor who literally will not make eye contact with you do not take his class.

Terrible teacher. Really gives Geology a bad reputation. Instead of being objective in grading, he grades based on who he likes. Every other geology professor is fair. Take 110 or 171 with someone else.
