Comment:
literally the most boring class i have EVER taken. he just reads off of a packet the entire time. i never showed up and still got a solid B. the midterm and final are strictly memorization and the essay and presentation are pretty easy. those are the only things that get graded though so if you do bad on one you have to do really well on the rest

Comment:
Had him for ethics and meta; like his out of the box thinking and sobering world view. That said I think he came to hate me eventually becuase I was habitually late to class. I feel if students can do well even without showing up as much as the teachers who demands they shouldn't be the target of the proffers ire. It felt petty and egotistical.

Professor Hughes manages to make Metaphysics interesting, which is no easy task. That being said, his class is not easy. You must read the textbooks a lot to grasp the material. There is a midterm, final, and essay on a metaphysics topic of your choosing. Also, attendance is important so make sure you go to every class.

Dr. Hughes is a great guy, one of the few professors that has passion in his eyes, a real intellect. As far as the class in concerned I would only recommend it to those who want to study contemporary Jesus scholars. It can be quite a bore otherwise but it has its moments. Definitely a lot of reading and I'm still trying to figure out how he grades.

Extremely difficult professor, but definitely worth taking. Makes political views obvious, but has a lot of relevant information to say from both sides of an issue. Encourages critical thinking and positive reflection.

I had Chuck for Philosophy of Religion. the most closed minded professor i have ever had. He is a christian, and grades papers better if you write them pro-Christianity. boring class, dense lectures. the only up side to him is that he sounds like a mix of Sean Connery and William Shatner

Comment:
I made the mistake of taking a 300-level course as a GE requirement. His lectures were very dense, and his explanations of things were very one-sided. He is a very funny teacher, and very approachable. In fact, he gave me an extension when I needed one. Tough class though, and like I said, he's a bit narrow-minded.

Comment:
Hughes is incredibly closed minded for a philosophy professor. He provides a thorough explanation of his side of an argument and a pathetic explanation of the opposing side. He then makes some ridiculous claim that the other side supposedly makes and proceeds to call it stupid. I learned more from John Stossel...

this guy is hilarious. as a 3 hour class over interterm, his lectures are extremely boring. but a good subject material to get a GE done with.

At first, this class is really boring but it will grow on you. Hughes is a pretty funny teacher and gives you handouts which are pretty much summaries of what you are supposed to read. You really do not need to go to class much. Just read the handouts and know your stuff.

Chuck is really a great professor. He's a good guy and is funny, but still challenges you to think. There tends to be a lot of reading, but you can get through it by being selective or just reading his handouts. Just take the papers and tests seriously and you'll do fine. Material can be boring to those who aren't interested, but still a good FFC.

Chuck is a great professor. He looks like Hercule Poirot, and his lecture style is unique and funny. He's amiable and tries his best to engage you. If you don't like philosophy, let's face it, no professor is going to make it better. But Chuck is great if you're into it. Don't worry about the books, and attendance isn't mandatory. Easy.

I took this class last semester and Chuck is truly one of the most laid back teachers you will ever meet! He tries hard to make the class easy, but it can be too much reading for finals. It's a fun, easy, and interesting class. You learn about different perspectives about Jesus and his divinity.

He knows a lot about his subject, but he doesn't like to stray from the curriculum. even so, we still didn't seem to do a ton in class, but it's an easy and interesting class to just show up and listen.

Ok, first, his combover is ridiculous, it's not even funny. As for his teaching, it only consisted of his handing us a hand-out and reading to us. I'm sure if we can get into college, we can read. Material didn't contain his thoughts/opinions but quotes from other scholars.

Contrary to other comments you do NOT need to read. Hughes will tell you everything you need to know, so show up to class and take good notes. I love how he slyly ridicules students who ask stupid questions. Has the WORST COMBOVER EVER but I find it endearing. For you Liberals: write something conservative in your paper.

He is not easy but not hard either. You will definately learn a lot from him because he knows his stuff. His readings are a bit difficult but the tests and papers are not too tough. He is entertaining and keeps you awake which is a plus.
