He's an intelligent professor, but his readings are long & content heavy. He skips around in lectures. Presents the material in a dry, monotone way. He talks to us as if we're colleagues, not students, making it hard to understand him sometimes. He will try to help you out if you ask for help or need him to go over something again. Don't miss class

He's a really sweet and nice guy but this class is HARD. It is a science heavy class so the material in general is hard to grasp. Lectures one day a week while the other day is set for a class discussion about the readings. He does not give study guides so take very good notes. He's talks very quite so lectures can be very boring.

This is by far the worst class I have ever taken. I came out of the class with no knowledge and no preperation for the next set of classes. There is two group projects that is required. The pro is that you get to choose group members. The con is that there is no limit to how long presentation are. This means groups ramble about useless information

I legit didnt learn anything in this class. McConnell is sweet and smart, but his lectures are SO BORING. Do not take him if you have any other options. He posts his PPTs online, but theyre useless because theyre so vague. He was also really sick the semester I took him, so he was always winded and tired. I feel like he should just retire.

This class material is HARD. It will forsure challenge you.. but McConnell is the BEST and most qualified for teaching this class. Show up, ask questions, take good notes, and know he wants to help guide you! Lots of reading but its as interesting as he can make it. One of my favorite professors, so glad I had time for this challenging course.

He really cares about his students and wants you to do well. He breaks down very difficult material so it's easier to understand. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Tons of reading but books are pretty interesting. He curves his tests! He gives you an outline of lectures and tells you before test what's important. Hard class but great professor!

He clearly knows his material, but it can sometimes get to be too advanced for the general students to follow along. There are response essays for every single reading. He does not provide much feedback so it is difficult to know how you are doing.

I would not suggest taking this class. He is a smart guy and should honestly be teaching at UCLA or MIT There are no study guides. the test are 25 short answer questions but he gives so much material its hard to know what to study and what is important. He is helpful in office hours. Speaks way to fast when teaching hard material.

Every week there are 3-4 assignments due that require about a page of reading/viewing reflections. He is somewhat lenient on when those are turned in, but the work definitely piles up so you need good time management. There are 3 essays that make up most of your grade, and he gives good feedback on each one.

Probably one of the hardest liberal studies courses just because of the dense subject matter. His class consists of reading journals, participation, and 3 essays. Journals and participation are essential to your grade so make sure you do them and talk in class.

Professor McConnell is the best professor I had here this year. he is very tough but fair, he gives good feedback. He requires a lot of writing, which can be time consuming, and is typical as far as Liberal arts teachers go because he doesn't spoon feed you what he wants. if you think for yourself and argue you will get an A.

He is way too smart to be teaching the course, so a lot of the discussions are very in depth and at a high level of intellect. He is a great professor though. If you study and write well, you'll get an A.

Homework every night, difficult books to read because it's about science and physics, reading every night, super hard tests, not easy to pass at all, would not recommend. Missing a class will make everything hell. You need to have a good understanding of physics in order to pass TRUST ME I TOOK HONORS PHYSICS AND THIS WAS SUCH A HARD CLASS

McConnell is great teacher! He is very knowledgeable on various topics. His lectures are bit long sometimes, but they are full of information. He'll always kindly correct you and will explain why. The book is a must have because he assigns homework weekly. He gives you a study guide for the exams & if you study, you'll get a good grade!

I was terrified of public speaking before this class, I thought for sure I would dread this class everyday, & while making speeches still isn't my favorite thing in the world, Prof. McConnell made this class easy & stress free. His feedback & self evaluations improved my presentations. I've had him for 2 different classes & I strongly recommend.

Dr. McConnell is a hard but amazing professor! You'll be amazed how much you learn at the end of the semester. He isn't an easy A but he is a Must take and an A if you work hard! He is hilarious and genuinely cares about student learning. He could've gone into physics research but CHOSE to become a professor! His class is worth the work :]

Knowledgeable and funny professor, kept seminars engaging even when no one volunteered to talk. The additional readings to homework can be a bit tedious, I skimmed most of them. Start your speeches early and reread your essays; he DOES read every word of it and will probably know more on the subject than you. Be prepared to back up your argument.
