Amazing teacher. So sad he left but he's the reason I'm a sociology major. I wish whoever didn't have him had the chance to because he really makes you think about everything. A little dated sometimes but it's ok because a lot of things a recycled anyways. No book, just his notes. He will remain my favorite teacher of all chico state forever.

Best teacher I've ever had! I've loved all his classes and he's the reason I'm a sociology major. He makes you think, and makes you want to learn more. He is very supportive and listens to all his students. It's sad he's retired, but I'm honored to have taken his class and will use the lessons he taught for the rest of my life.

an amazing teacher. very unfortunate that this past year was his last one but he is an amazing teacher. very happy to have had met him. he was the best sociology teacher that has ever been on this campus.

Dan is my best friend. We have a mutual respect for each other that is unique and nearly impossible to find with professors. He truly values everyone's opinion(yes, even the bigoted men) and allows for important class discussion. Although not the easiest grader, if you take the assignments seriously, you will get an A in the class.

I love this man! Sociology of sexuality taught me so much. I didn't need to take it but am so glad that I did, one of my favorite classes I've ever taken. He really respects his students and they respect him. More guys should take this class. I'm considering taking another class of his just because he is the teacher. No tests, but you learn a lot.

He is a really nice guy and really cares about what people think in this class. You can honestly say the craziest stuff and he'll still listen to you. Very open minded too. Also never gives an tests or quizzes or anything just short 1-2 page essays.

One of the best people you'll ever meet. He respects everyone in the class and treats us all like equal. There's a small writing assignment due every other class, but it's easy he basically gives you the answers. Doesn't care about attendance, but gives ec to people who show up Fridays. Every class is interesting don't take SOCI133 with anyone else

The most overrated professor here. Heavily favors female students. I tried participating and he'd openly ignore me. If you disagree or even doubt his points, you will be met with condescension and ridicule rather than respectful debate, which is disappointing for a soft science class. Class was disorganized, assignments were all just busywork.

great professor. do all of the extra credit, he is a tough grader on assignments but offers tons of xtra credit. felt like i learned a lot in his class. only complaint is him making you memorize everyones name in class, spent way too much class time on that. great lectures, fun homework assignments, wants you to learn. gets you to participate.

I love Dr. Pence's style of teaching. Most of his class is based on discussion on today's topics so it really lights up a light in his students minds, and he incorporates socio theories very well and makes them crystal clear to understand. Thanks to him I am no longer shy to ask questions in class or speak out loud. Thank you Dr. Pence!

This class was definitely an experience to say the least. I took it as a freshman for fun but ended up being my favorite class. Attendance is kind of mandatory as there is a signin sheet. Late hw is okay but dont skip! go to class there are some awesome discussions! Dan is easy going and understanding, participate in discussion and you'll be fine

Dan is an amazing teacher and is extremely easy to talk to. If you ever need to take a sociology class I would definitely recommend him. He's lenient on hw assignments but they are necessary. Class isn't mandatory, but trust me, you'll love attending his class. By the end of his courses I knew everyone's name in the class

Dan is a very cool guy, but I dont think he is fit to be a teacher. He is very unorganized and grades extremely hard. I showed up to every class and did all of my assignments, which is mandatory to pass. He is very hard to contact and I dont think he truly cares about what grade you get.
