Comment:

When he goes over questions about the homework, quizzes, and tests he will only go through the problem without much explanation. The same for the lecture, goes through the lesson and properties but doesn't actually explain. Don't take this class if you don't know previous math 100% and if you're not willing to work/teach yourself.

Comment:

Professor Gustafson is the kind of teacher that tries to act cool, which is fine. What I didn't like was the fact that he would take off half your points for leaving out one single step. You must show "all work". He also refused to answer any of my concerns or questions that I had regarding the quizzes or homework.

Mr. "G" is a funny knowledgeable guy. He told the class he would not cheat us out of any material.. He was not lying. I took him for a maymester and he packs everything from the normal 16 weeks in to those 11 days. 24 quizzes and 5 tests. He expects you to spend at least a total of 12 hours per day outside of his class studying. CRAZY TALK.

Basically you have to teach yourself in his class. He goes over homework as his lectures and then gives quizzes.

He gives 30 quizzes, and averages the top 20 to replace your lowest test grade. The homeworks are not graded but if you dont do them you will fail. There are 5 exams. He puts some really hard questions on the exams to separate the As from the Bs which sucks. Probably wont end up with an A even after spending hours a week on hws and quizzes.

nice guy, decent @ teaching, but the workload IS IMPOSSIBLE! He gives 30+ quizzes (in-class & take-home, drops 10), His tests are insanely hard & never enough time to complete them. If you don't do the "optional" hw, you wont be prepared for tests/in-class quizzes. I've had an "A" in math since HS and this is the first class i've ever failed.

FAV PROF EVER!!! Mr. G genuinely cares about everyone passing. 18-24 quizzes total. Only uses the top 16 averaged to replace the lowest test grade. 4 tests and the final exam. Also uses a Student Instructor for additional tutoring. Not easy, but he worked hard to help us every way he could. SI helped too. Took as Maymester. Not for faint of heart.

This class is hard and requires daily studying/HW, but Prof Gustafson was the best! He doesn't make it easy or cut corners, you have to put in the work, but he cares about his students and he works so many problems out on the board. Show up to class and commit to doing the work. Prof G knows his stuff. Take advantages of the quizzes!

The absolute BEST math teacher I have ever had!! If you don't do good in his class it's because you didn't put the work in. Lots of HW!!! Like all math classes. I failed this class 5 previous times but with his help I am getting an A!!He was there for me all the way. Take his class!!! "What the cob!"

not realistic at all! he makes jokes that make you feel like 'i should know this already' and that it is basically shaming for not know it, which in my opinion (and my current experience) is not very nice for the students ability to learn. i will have to take calc again next semester because i could not learn with this teacher

I loved Professor G's class. I'm not great at math, but he explained Calculus as in a way I could understand. He does give a lot of quizzes, homework, etc. But if you do the work, you'll do alright. He really does care - great guy. I'd take this class again in a heartbeat.

I took the ALEKS based Development math course with him as lead. He cheers you on, is helpful, and gets you headed in the right direction. I was terrible at math but I passed this class with an A. Not easy but not difficulty if you put in the work.

One of the all-time best professors I have EVER taken!!!!!! Mr G explains all of the necessary material, is really funny, and cares about your success. Not a class for an easy A; tests very difficult, quizzes every day of class, and text book is needed (expect lots of homework).

Comment:

Gustafson is a caring, respectful, intimidating, and great instructor. Quizzes almost everyday, since its a summer class Amazing lectures. Do the hmwk to do well on quizzes, tests are brutal so study his quizzes and hwmk. Calchat, alot of studying, and the folks in the mathlab are key to doing well in any Calculus class. Would take again!

So Mr. G thinks it's a good idea to quiz first then teach the subject. Well by the time I learn the material, I've already failed the quiz then we move on to the next cycle of failure. He expects for you to do all your learning with the Supplemental Instructor (tutor) either before or after class. So this class really requires more than the 3 hours
