Comment:
One of the worst professors at Bethel. The only class I would suggest taking from her is one on despotism because she would provide first hand experience. She refuses to treat her students like adults. She is self-centered and arbitrary. While she is intelligent, she does not inspire students to love the subjects she is teaching.

Without this teacher, this class would be very interesting. She is self-indulged, rude, harsh, and lacks knowledge. She ruined this class.

Dr. Magnuson expects a lot from her students and if you aren't ready to work hard, don't take the class. If you do the work, you will do great and learn a lot. The books she uses are great and the material she presents is always clear and informative. The classes are always a lot of work, but worth it!

She definitely plays favorites with students. Gave me a bad grade on a paper because I used too much primary source material. Performance in her classes does not represent a student's ability, as one student I know got a D but then went to grad school in History at Ivy League school. Worst prof I had at Bethel.

What could have been a truly awesome class has been completely destroyed by this Professor. I was really looking forward to this class, but it would take me two full pages to list all of the complaints I have about her teaching (or lack thereof). If you care about your grade, then DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM THIS PROF!

Despite being doing perfect on most of test, I was repeatedly set back by her section that makes student identify specific one paragraph quotes from our reading, as well as the author, which is asinine considering the average chapter of the book has 7 or 8 authors. What under other circumstances would have been an A test was deemed a C-. Horrible.

Comment:
Tests are poorly written. Insistence on memorization of 10 or 12 specific quotes and their authors is unrealistic given the fact that the student reads hundreds over the course of the semester. Study guides are of no help at all, nor are the bulk of lecture notes. Again has ruined what should have been an extremely interesting class.

Diana expects her students to work hard, but I enjoyed her class immensely. Expect to read many primary source texts and learn about social/minority/census history. She also places a high emphasis on analytical response papers, which keep students accountable for the readings. I wish I could have taken more of her classes.

You will never meet a professor who is so taken up with her own beliefs. For some odd reason she offered for us to come to her office, and when i wen there she basically told me if i and the rest of the class was sruggling, it was our fault. Study guides were a diversion, nothing from them was on the test. Not funny. Worst prof ever

I LOVED my class with Diana. It was the hardest class I've EVER taken, but she taught in a clear way that really challenged me. I learned a TON and really felt I deserved my grade in the end.

I did not like her class. She would say things that were simply wrong & then defend them when questioned. Very unclear about expectations. Doesn't seem confident with the material and yet she's completely uncompromising and unhelpful.

An extreme social historian-biased content. Seems unwilling to help students succeed. Grading difficulty is extremely disproportionate to that of other history profs. Can you say favorites?

Horrible professor, seems nervous and unsure of course content. Plays favorites with students, grades very tough. Very vague on assignments, grading seems very arbitrary.
