Comment:

Very nice and willing to compromise. Show great interest in her field. Took Intro to English Major. Hated the class, but Witt was enjoyable. Would take another one of her classes.

Comment:

Too much information at a breakneck pace. That said, the Professor did accomodate for falling behind schedule by reducing written assignments, and tests were multiple choice. However, she was evasive when it came to answering questions about exams, so unless you are willing to memorize almost everything, be wary of this class.

This was the worst class I have taken at Iowa. Chock full of busy work and she loves to listen to herself talk. She is not up front about exams and takes forever to get them back to you. The syllabus is too full and she assigns so much more than she ever touches on. Takes attendance at lecture and its a huge hassle. Waste of tuition and time.

It's been 11 years since I've graduated, and I'm still amazed by how lucky I was to work with Professor Witt. She's smart, caring, innovative and respectful of her students--others in the Iowa English Dept. can learn a thing or two from her. Simply the best instructor I've ever worked with. Excelsior!

Comment:

Somewhere at the crossroads of cultural studies, literature, and history, the hackneyed metaphor of "crossing" is reinvigorated by Witt. Her energy, knowledge, and sheer originality makes her one of the best, if not the best, lecturers I've ever had, and she is a huge inspiration for her students' future trysts with academia (at the crossroads).

I agree with the Witt detractors. I have a 4.0 in all my English classes, have taken more than were required, and can certainly handle the level of critical theory in the class. But this prof seemed to have a beef with certain students for no reason that I could come up with. I have no idea what I did, but got the feeling I didn't stand a chance

Very interesting class. Subject a little difficult but she gives enough history to understand readings. Reading amount is fair and discussions interesting. She is very open to different ideas during class. Like her a lot and would take her again.

Witt is one of the best profs at Iowa. I can't imagine anyone having a problem with her unless they are completely unreasonable. She is smart, not pretentious, listens well to her students, and is quite receptive to new ideas. Simply the best.

You have to be crazy to have a problem with Witt. She's one of the most amazing professors I've ever had--subject matter is understandable but there is also a more intense level of critical theory necessary for doing well, particularly on the projects.
