CSCD 450 & 451 Software Engineering II; Doug Bickerstaff; Highly recommended!! Doug is the nearest thing you will get in school to a typical software development manager at any leading software firm. He regularly does sabbaticals and keeps up-todate on the latest org theory and tools used in the industry. Plan on some interesting group projects.

Not the easiest teacher, but if you just GO TO CLASS and PAY ATTENTION instead of goofing around on your computer, you will do well in this class. You will learn A LOT in this class.

Is he rating himself? He is awful, not helpful, not clear, and borderline abusive. Extremely biased. Some do way more and better work than others and are graded on his like of your personality.

Doug Bickerstaff does not teach an easy course but he is a fare and insightful instructor with a lot of industry experience. The CS and CIS degree has value because Doug Bickerstaff doesn?t let unqualified lazy people get through without proving some hacking skills.

His in class lectures serve only for him to ramble about unrelated topics. He is often unclear about assignment specifications and chastises and belittles students which ask for clarification. I honestly believe from his demeanor that he despises both the topics which he teaches and those who wish to learn from him. Avoid this guy like the plague

Is a very good but hard teacher will not put up with bs, expects you to work for your grade. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT if you do the work, if you goof off he will call you on it. Expect a lot of research and time for this class. Don't take him if your a slider and expecting an easy A.

An utter joke "at best". This guy takes great pleasure in failing students. To be breif, the whole class is based on a final project. The coursework relies on you learning EVERYTHING on your own (he is of no help at all). Furthermore, he has to approve your project, so if he "likes" you you end up with a project. Grades are either 4.0, 2.0, or 0.0!

Difficult course material, especially if you are not familiar w/ database concepts. If and when you complete these courses, you will be a better student/independent learner. I do not understand some of these other comments, if you want to succeed in these courses (and life), you need to learn away from the classroom as well as in it. I knew nothing about db's before starting 425, and had just been exposed to programming three quarters prior... I got excellent grades in all Bickerstaff's courses.

Does not care about helping students at all. It is unfortunate becuase he teaches good classes I wanted to take, but I refuse to take them because he is a poor teacher.

It depends on if he likes you or not. If he does, it doesn't matter what you turn in, it'll be great. If he doesn't like you...well...retake the class and make sure he likes you! ;-)

Avoid him if you can. He seems to enjoy failing students and seems to not want to help them out. He is difficult in that it is unclear what he wants.

Wow. Can I say, should be gone? I'm a senior CS student involved in the ACM and has almost straight 4.0s in CS classes, but I have gotten Ds from Bickerstaff in Database classes (and I knew how to code Databases BEFORE taking his class). If you want a teacher that makes ANY sense, avoid Dr. B
