Super sweet lady. Not a lot of grades but she gives you a study guide for every test and gives partial credit. You'll learn a lot of information that never ends up being on the tests but it's pretty interesting so I didn't mind. Weekly discussion boards are pretty detailed and usually take a bit of work. Actually read the book, it really helps.

Dr. Crystal is extremely laid back. Her lectures could be a little boring sometimes, but she posts lots of articles and videos and links to fun activities instead of just lecturing the entire time. I had her for a TR 9:30 am and she seemed to know that we were all half asleep in the morning and didn't push us too much to answer questions.

Be prepared to do a lot of reading and research on your own. Her lectures are a joke. She just reads off the slides and she barely covers important keys and concepts. Her slides also include awful old memes and annoying cat pictures rather than important detailed information about the Middle East. BE SURE TO READ THE SOURCES SHE PUTS ON CANVAS.

I took this class for fun to learn about the Middle East but it was more difficult than I expected. Her lectures are hard to follow and a lot of supplemental readings are required in order to understand the concepts. Only take this class if you are interested in the Middle East or you will hate it. Her tests are all short answer.

Dr. Crystal's lectures wander all over the place and she tries too hard to relate to students (mis-used memes galore), but she definitely knows her stuff. If you are interested in anything Middle Eastern, take her; otherwise you're going to have a doable but boring semester. Most test questions come straight from the study guide, so use it!

Her lectures are hilarious, but outside research to have a good knowledge base for the test is essential. She gives study guides- 50ish terms and on tests she picks 12, and you answer 10 of them. Keep up with the news and current events- it will help you a lot. Textbook helpful but not necessary by any means. Wikipedia and the internet is plenty.

Lectures aren't very structured, but you can easily tell her passion for the subject matter and her extensive knowledge of the Middle East. Tests generally follow the study guide, but definitely read the articles because there are some curveballs. I don't pay attention during the lectures but read the textbook and I've made A's on every test.

An amazing class taught by an incredible professor. She made a complicated subject I had no prior knowledge of easy to understand and grasp. The class was always interesting and she was always there for any questions about anything. I plan to take another class with her even though her topics don't come near relating to my major.

Great! Super smart and helpful. If you want to learn about mid east she's it! Also gives study guides that make tests much easier...usually 30-40 question multiple choice tests.

one of the best professors I had. I f you want to take a class that really teaches you, take one of her Middle Eastern Classes. She's hard, but that is because she is so smart. She is really nice and will help if you ask. Class is difficult and you think you are failing the entire time, but you some how make it to the end with a good grade

I have just finished my third class with Dr. Crystal and made an A. She is definetly not who you take for an easy grade. Her readings are a must. Do that and you should be fine. I have never made below a B.

Don't go to class- you want be able to keep up and there's no point. I got an A in the class and only went on test days. Read your stuff and listen to the TA's! The material and tests are not that difficult- just challenging.

they called it U102 when I took it, but it's still the same class. she was terrible. TA was lost, too. it took an all-nighter before the final to get a B in that "should be an easy A" class. i'm furious.

As you've read she talks WAY TOO FAST!It's so annoying but thankfully the TA's are very helpful. You will learn a lot in this class.I never read the book and studied my notes for the class and I made an A.If you go to the TA session you will be fine!Your attendance in the TA session counts as a test grade so thats an easy A and extra credit helps 2.

Talks way to fast. Impossible to take notes. Tests are ambiguous and often have two right answers. Will give extra credit, and you'll need it. No paper, but it might have been nice so grade would have been better.
