He is my favorite professor! I have had many great teachers but his lectures are the most engaging, well-performed and memorable of all. Every time I went to his class, I was enchanted-as if I entered a different world-- what an amazing experience! I took all the possible courses I could with him and majored in history because of him.

Comment:

Ambrose is the most legendary professor at Hamilton. He's brilliant, approachable, gregarious, and most importantly, he makes you want to learn and come to class prepared. His approval is more addictive than any controlled substance. He has an army of disciples who chase him around the hallways after class, and for good reason.

If you were to only take one class at Hamilton, it should be an Ambrose lecture. He's a tough grader (only gives an A if he thinks it is publish-ready) but only because he expects you to try your best and believes you are capable of great work. His lectures are phenomenal and he makes you want to do the work so you can participate in class.

Just Amazing. After one class with Ambrose, you can tell that, not only does he love the material, he loves to make people understand it too. A brilliant professor and extrmely animated, he expends more energy in the classroom than most people do in a gym. A very tough grader, but you learn to write. Also, extremely gregarious and approachable.

I've taken three classes with Ambrose in two years, and the semester when I didn't have him I literally missed his lectures. Whatever you take with him will be easily your favorite class just by virtue of his animation and good humor. Please do yourself a favor and don't graduate without taking one of his classes.

Read through the other comments on this page and you'll see that a fair number of students worship this man, and for good reason. He's absolutely brilliant, energetic, and surprisingly approachable. He's also extremely demanding, but not unfairly so. You will get ripped apart on papers, but your writing will benefit enormously from his comments.

By far the greatest Professor at Hamilton. I have taken many of his classes, and they get better everytime. Extremely challenging, but he actually cares about you and your progress. Don't leave Hamilton without taking an Ambrose class!

An inspired lecturer, energetic teacher, impassioned historian, and genuinely nice guy. He's a difficult grader, but you will learn a lot. Take at least one of his classes before you leave Hamilton-- it's definitely worth it. He's one of the best professors here. (And I wasn't even interested in the class before I showed up.)

amazing. my favorite professor of all time. probably one of the hardest graders i've had, but he's an inspired speaker (he LOVES history) and i did some of my best written work under his guidence. HIGHLY reccomended, but be prepared to work.
