Comment:
If at all possible, please avoid Prof. Antmann. She is the perfect human embodiment of the petty bureaucratic system of long-overdue retired, vindictive professors: out of touch with reality and her peers, with a lack of compassion for students an an axe to grind. In her class, you will sweat and spend a lot of money on materials. Save yourself.

The course requires a lot of time to be spent outside of the classroom. It also requires a lot of money on materials and supplies like a camera, film, expensive paper, etc. Professor Antmann acts as if this is the only class students take, and is very out of touch with students. She has little empathy, can be rude, and certainly plays favorites.

the class is very time consuming but also very rewarding. she tells you which pictures she likes and expects those to be the ones that you present. go along with what she says unless you really disagree with her. the themes for the projects she assigns are pretty boring but she is lenient and sometimes allows you to do whatever you want instead.

After taking her, I'm a little dissappointed I wasn't warned in advance. This is an elective in a business concentrated school and this professor truly believes that intro to photography is comparable to neuroscience - ITS NOT! Class is very time consuming, expensive, and the professor is incompetent. Take Sussman instead.

I, honestly, did not take the class because of the professor, but for the dark room. So I don't have much to say about the professor except she cares about attendance and she makes decisions for you in terms of picking your pictures (ignore them, it doesn't affect your grade). Her projects are bland, but final project really tests your creativity.

Very easygoing and helpful. Like most students have said, she focuses on darkroom techniques. Can be a little absent-minded/forgetful at times. Supplies are a little pricy but if you are looking for an interesting elective or a new hobby this is the class for you.

She tries to make it seem like "everyone has a say," but if she doesn't like your work, she criticises it. She wants you to look at things the way she sees them. Like for the final project, we can do it on anything that we like. She didn't like my topic so she wasn't very interested when I was presenting it. "Artist" have their own unique personali

Awesome artist. Not technical at all like I've heard others are - concentrating more on darkroom techniques - she concentrates on the work, art + your feelings rather than precision in darkroom! Because of her artsy nature- I fell in love with photography, although got BA in psychology - make my living as a photographer ever since.

Fun but lots of work. Most of my free time was spent in the darkroom. She isn't too technical but it's black and white film. Do you really need to get too technical with it? She is more into the art form of photography. Offers good tips, advices, and criticisms.

She's not terribly informative, and I can only imagine how little I might have gotten out of the class had I gone in with no prior "technical" knowledge. That said, if you're just looking to take some pictures, and havbe fun over the summer, I'd recommend Antmann. She's not very demanding, and she's willing to help those who need it.

This is a great class. Lots of work to do in the darkroom(nice lab). She is very helpful and loves to see students work. She has something nice to say about everyone's pics. Take here if you want to learn how to use an SLR and shoot great pics. I had a blast in the summer. Too bad the class was only 1 month.

She's really not hard, I don't know what people are talking about. Just pay attention, do the assignments she asks you, I don't see why everyone can't get an A. People are just lazy.

I was so eager to take Photo in the summer but after this professor, i don't have much of an interest in photography. she tends to be picky about the pictures and picks favorites. she can go on forever about how some students "really conveyed their message through the pictures". I got screwed over and had to redo my final project on the last day.

Took her in spring of 2005. Got an A. You don't need a book, save the money to buy papers. She is a strict professor, but very nice and helpful. She assign a lot of works,8 rolls for the semester and 5 rolls for the final. You'll learn a lot from her. I worked very hard to got an A, but it's a very fun class.I spend at least 400 dollars for class.

Dont buy the book, she goes over everything in class. Very demanding - im taking BPL and i find that a soph level art course is more demanding than one of the more difficult BPL professors in the school. tale sussman, hes more laid back albeit more fast paced. shes somewhat sensitive to problems.

Boring, wastes alot of time and doesnt teach well. Take sussman, but if you do take her, dont expect an A. She doesnt give out alot, and dont buy the expensive book. you'll never, ever, use it. its def. and easy B to A-.
