Very nice and helpful. Topics for essays are very broad which has its pros/cons... I like the rough/final draft system, because you get his opinion before you turn in a final paper. He's not a super hard grader, but it IS hard to get over an A- on his essays.

White is an excellent professor who is passionate about teaching. If you take his creative non-fiction be prepared to write a lot. Attend class and don't wait until the last minute to do your work. You need to keep up with the reading and practice. He lets you rewrite your essays without penalty. So if at first you don't succeed try try again!

Professor White is a nice guy and knows the subject well. However, it is hard to understand what he is trying to say. DON'T be creative, and leave your ideas at home. He is only interested in regurgitated ideas and interpretations. If you have a choice, choose someone else.

Comment:
Professor White is an extremely nice guy, and gives students a chance to improve their work. BUT, his grading system is inconsistent. He doesn't grade based on the quality of a paper itself, but on the number of drafts and attempts to rewrite. While this might instill good writing habits, it isn't a fair way to grade papers.

He's a genuinely nice guy, so I felt bad for disliking this class. It just felt like a waste of time. You don't have to go to class really, if you do the assignments. He's a pretty easy grader and nothing is really difficult.

I disagree. A bad teacher. Can't keep control of the class. Doesn't listen to students. Teaches hardly anything of value. (He teaches how to react to a poem without considering what the text actually says). However, it is easy.

Not a bad teacher. Good topics for papers. Gives you plenty of chances to improve your papers. 4 main papers put into a portfolio and not graded til the end of the year. He really tries to get you inerested into the tpics brought up. He does kinda have an eye twich though...a little distracting for me in class :)

Poetry: 3 papers, a journal, an oral presentation, and a take-home final. A moderately difficult grader. Good teacher--great class (if you like poetry)

Great prof. only 4 major writing assignments for the quarter. no final. writing assignments are not difficult at all. some are long (eng 2 4th writing assignment) but its not difficult to meet the requirement. most papers are 5 pages. offers extra credit.
