Comment:
Extremely intelligent and educated in his field. Every class is a lecture, so pay attention or you'll be lost. Unfortunately, he has the tendency to make students feel stupid in class, so I never raise my hand anymore. Take notes, study a lot, and see him out of class, you'll be okay. He's obsessed with grammar! But not an unreasonable grader.

Took a mandatory class with him last Fall, (2018). I would not ever willingly take a class with Prof. Clark again. He is arrogant, condescending, and has a difficult teaching style to follow (for notes). Has some kind of personal vendetta against high school teachers. Got a 4.0, but was absolutely necessary to read all chapters for weekly quizzes.

Dr. Clark is the worst grader in the department. Clark assigns reading quizzes at least once a week throughout the semester and does not provide the option for make ups. Clarks matching section on his exams are irrelevant to anything he lectures on. Even as a history major I have passed every other class. Clark is unacceptable as a professor.

Okay... I am an honors student and have won awards for the highest grade in the history department. History with Clark was probably one of the worst experiences I have had with a professor. The material we cover in class is not quizzed. He is very condescending and used vocabulary like hes at a gala. Hes a funny guy but not the best professor.

Certainly worth taking if you're into abstract conversations. This professor is seriously smart. He loves questions and will provide ample feedback. His classes are very informational and interesting.

Knows his stuff. NOT an easy class, but if you take very thorough notes and do the reading youll be fine. Also make sure to talk to him after class, it helps.

He's very condescending and not clear on what to study... Considering it's spread across 4-6 chapters of reading, three weeks of lecture notes, and some key words. But if you suck up to him and act knowledgable then he'll love you for the rest of the semester. He's nice when grading errors are pointed out so don't be afraid to speak up! Never text!

Comment:
Very condescending toward students. Makes sure you memorize the European countries and political map (rivers/seas/plantains/etc)... He also likes to teach grammar on the side, so expect chapter quizzes in his discussion class days, the book is interesting to read. He's the type to humiliate your writing, make you feel dumb and insecure. No tech.

Avoid his class if you don't want to be belittled. Mocks working class people and high school teachers. Fails to forget he is an educator himself. Lectures are scatterbrained and incoherent most days. Reading is essential and be in class in order to pass. It is possible. He is a tough guy to enjoy being around with the condescending attitude.

Worst professor that I have ever had. Extremely rude to students, even during class. I don't know one person who has enjoyed his class or has positive things to say, except for possibly his army of teacher assistants. Avoid this professor at all costs. European history and geography was a 100 level class and harder than any class Ive ever taken

He is very arrogant and rude, but if you engage him in class and can stand his backlash you'll find that he is very intelligent. He's going to make you feel like a speck of dust if you mess up, but when you do something right you become golden in his eyes. If you're looking to just get a history credit, don't take him. Take him if you're committed.

This guy is very rude and arrogant. Even other faculty have expressed a strong dislike for him; he came from princeton so he thinks he's better than others. His class is boring & he focuses on things that are irrelevant.. If you're considering this class for the WC credit, I suggest looking elsewhere. Please learn from my mistake!!!

I took his Medieval to Renaissance England class and he is an interesting professor. Very enthusiastic, very active, but not the best at conveying information. He gets distracted easily and goes off on tangents. It's difficult to get a good grade but he does offer help outside of class, you just have to work hard. Great guy but be prepared to work.

The WORST professor I've had so far at Potsdam. He's extremely condescending to the entire class, every class. He spends most of the lecture letting his students know that he's superior in every way to them. Getting one on one help with him is impossible, which doesn't matter because he's even worse in person. AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

He should just go be a high school teacher instead of spending half the class ridiculing them. Extremely condescending and likes to set up questions so he can tell you you're wrong. Even if it's correct, he'll mock you for giving a "high school answer." Useful life lessons, but arrogant and condescending. Take your 101 from a good professor.
