Comment:
Although he is a good teacher, he does not give enough feedback or is clear enough when talking about project grades. He is very harsh and over-critical towards the students. (A couple of them cried after one class). But since- most likely due to a complaint to the director of the department- he has gotten better in communication.

This man demands respect but does not command it. Respect must be earned but Flahaven, in his fear that his class may not be taken seriously, badgers students into respecting him and his rules. If you are ever late he will pick on you. Students are often afraid to ask a question because his responses can be moody, terribly insecure and childish.

He's nice but I'm not sure about some of his communication skills. He's clear on typed homework but get's a little annoyed at questions in class (moody)? I worked hard to study for the final art exam and never heard how I did on it. I agree with an older post from a UNE student "lighten up"

He's very professional. He will critique your drawing even if you've only been drawing for a few minutes in class. WARNING: He will draw on your drawing. But this is his teaching style. He's a great professor, very kind. He might push you to do better, but that's because he cares! I would give him a b+ A- as a professor.

Jim really cares about the progress of his students, appreciates and allows freedom of style, yet expects each to push oneself beyond the comfort zone into growth. You WILL come out of his class having learned a lot. He tells it as he sees it - so don't sluff off!

Jim is the best teacher. He is totally patient if you aren't naturally talented and teaches you how to get better without being insulting. He really cares about how his students are doing. I definately recommed taking his class.

I took this class cause i thought it was going to be taught by the dude from the Simpsons. Prof Frink. You know how he's always saying stuff like "Flahaven". I guess I'll drop this and take Prof Sizlacks class instead.

Wonderful teacher for the beginning art student. Jim is helpful, and cares about the quality of his teaching. He is also very passionate about art, which is a must for an art teacher. I highly recommend him.
