It was worth taking Data Mining. Learned a lot under Mr. Wang. He is very supportive and reply to email real quick. You face any difficulties just email him and difficulty is solved.

Lecture slides are colorful and his speech is clear, so clear that I watched the videos at 2x playback speed and still understood everything he said. Arguably goes into too much detail, doesn't skip any steps so its impossible to get lost. Interesting topics, fair midterm and project. Only complaint is not enough time allotted for final.

Comment:

Prof. Wang is the best professor I have at NJIT. His lectures are clear and he answers questions in Moodle promptly. The exam takes time, but the final grade is reasonable. The best aspect of this course? The way Dr. Wang uses examples to explain concepts and algorithms is cool!

Comment:

He explained slides extremely well. Lecture videos were very helpful. The exam was not hard; the exam questions were mostly from his slides and lecture notes. Overall, this is a practically useful course that is highly recommended for all computer science students.

Could have been a great course, but absolutely horrible. Slides not helpful. Face to face lectures involved an infuriating amount of humblebrags (skipped several). Responds reasonably well to emails & moodle questions. Exam was ridiculous: not that difficult, but far too little time to answer the questions effectively. Would not recommend.

Really great communications. Dr. Wang would respond to questions say and night, does this guy sleep. Comments on papers and assignments geared toward improving quality of assignments. Exams were difficult, but clearly based on material presented.

This is a truly useful course talking about transaction management and Big Data. The professor allows us to choose between PL/SQL and cloud databases as the term project. If you love programming and want to learn more about database internals and tuning, take this course.

Comment:

Dr Wang is one of the best professors I have at NJIT. He uses Moodle a lot and answers all questions promptly in Moodle. He encourages ample discussions in Moodle and one of my classmates helps us a lot in Moodle as well. The exam is not easy but Dr. Wang weights the SQL programs in the project heavily. Excellent course! Strongly recommended!

Good class to take if you want to learn Web Database & Big Data but go on campus and choose another professor than this one. He doesn't help at all, exams are harder with a short time to complete, no feedback what so ever from him throughout the all semester. If you know a little to no programming, please don't choose this professor & go on campus.

Took DL course this summer.Class reqs change on a whim, does not provide individual feedback on assignments, and even the simple logistics of the course are unclear (the syllabus had no weekly breakdown). Hard to plan ahead for this course. So tired of this professor who seems to lack respect for the part-time student with a full-time job!!

Prof Wang is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is very knowledgable and ready to help his students at any time of the day. He would respond to your e-mails even at 2 in the night. Since he teaches an advance course, you should have some background before taking his class. But his course is very well structured.
