Comment:
This professor put half the class to sleep on more than one occasion. His directions were scatterbrained. Nothing was clear and it felt like the answers to his questions were a moving target. Sad part is that this intro class was so bad it turned me off to other related studies.

Hopkins didn't know how to follow Socrates dictum, "Unexamined life is not worth living." Wasted life.

If you take notes on everything he says in the lecture and then review the notes before the exam an A is easy. I only took the T/F exams and got A's on all of them. Just don't answer questions you aren't sure about because he docks points for wrong answers. If you don't get a good grade, then you didn't prepare. The reading is mostly not necessary.

He is good at explaining the materials in class. The only downside was his True/False exam. He says he is straight forward with his expectations on the exams but then he tries to trick you. The essay exam isn't any better yet the material he teaches in class are current medical ethical issues that are easy. Its best if you communicate through email.

Professor Hopkins is a very, very nice man. He is incredibly well educated and well informed. However, his tests are near impossible, and I was never sure what to expect to be on the test. Pay very close attention to small details and be prepared for very challenging tests. Not reccommended to any non phil majors

The tests are based off things he briefly mentions during class. He is a nice person, but makes his tests difficult and very little of the material from the study guides show up on the tests. Try and avoid if possible.

Yes, very difficult class with painfully hard exams, but the content is really interesting and if you engage you will find a lot here. I cannot in good conscience recommend Jasper to anyone outside the major purely based on difficulty.

Worst course I have ever taken. His tests truly are impossible and your entire grade depends on them. Although he lets you choose between an essay and T/F exam, he's a very nitpicky grader & expects you to remember every little point he made during lecture (even if he only mentioned it once, w/o emphasis). Nice guy, but a poor teacher.

Although Jasper does drone on and on during his lectures, the material he drones on and on about is very interesting. If you like philosophy, are extremely motivated, and want a challenge, Jasper is for you. If not, find somebody else.

Horrible class. Professor Hopkins droned on non-stop the whole time, delving into dull example after example. The readings were excrutiating and the syllabus had no due dates on it so you couldn't tell when things were due. Everything we learned about contradicting what we had learned about earlier. But the test was steeply curved.

A good lecturer with interesting stories -- though a bit dry at times. Not a class one can simply wing -- you have to do the readings and pay attention in lecture. And don't try to b.s. on the essay (you know who you are), Hopkins isn't going to give you credit for a pointless stem-winder. A very good class if you're interested in the subject matte

His lectures are ok-- he has some interesting examples and stories, but the material for the subject is very dry. The essay test is graded by the TA, who doesn't seem to communicate at all with the professor. I was expecting this to be a fun easy class, and I was wrong on both accounts.

I like this teacher. He knows his stuff and is interesting to listen to. The grading is a bit hard, but if you know your stuff the tests arent so bad. He is a bit too busy to be a teacher you can talk to. Best part about him is his ability to talk

Worst, most confusing professor I've ever had. Avoid taking any of his classes. You will struggle. He is exttremely difficult. If you recorded him on tape, you could listen to it at night to put you to sleep.

the tests are crazy--you might as well take them at random--all true/false +1 if you get it right, -1 if you get it wrong. they are a psychologicall nightmare and totally unrelated to the lectures. the lectures weren't bad, just kind of boring...not what I expected from Philosophy of Religion, which could be really interesting with a better prof.

Very smart. Very curmudgeonly. He handed around a petition to get Walter Library to open earlier on Saturdays in lecture, which made me uncomfortable. (And from an ethics prof!)
