This class revolutionized the way that I thought about life and seeking goodness! It is crucial that you are a critical thinker and are willing to really listen to the wisdom of beauty.

Dr. Wattles was hands down the most confusing, out-there professor I've ever had. If you like concrete ideas and instructions, this professor is not for you. My notes are full of scribbles and question marks. I do not recommend any course with him, if he does return from his illness. Very nice and loving guy, not the best professor.

Comparative religious thought was one of the most boring classes I've ever taken. He's VERY into his teachings and will get very passionate when lecturing but it will be the longest hour and a half of your life. I skipped many times and still ended the year with a B.

I loved him as a teacher in this class! He is extremely passionate about the subject he teaches. In his lecture he jumps around a bit, but it is because what he is saying reminds him of something else he wants to say. His projects are very enlightening and if you aren't willing to be open minded and try new things his class isn't for you.

If you are a serious student, you need to take Wattles. My life has been changed. Never before have I met a person who was so impassioned about his philosophy. People complain about him talking about his religion. He represents other perspectives just as clearly. Take him for anything. He may just be the spark for your life to have meaning.

I had him for Introduction to Ethics. To start, he is a decent teacher. There are definitely professors who are better than him at conveying the information that is to be learned. That being said, he brought individuality to the learning experience. His projects are enjoyable and enlightening. Feel free to contact him outside of class as well.

Wonderful teacher! Some people don't like him, because he's a tad bit monotone. However his passion for his field comes through. If you're looking for an easy no-brainer class, do not take. He challenges you to think hard and to examine how you think. A little non-typical, but that's the best! Use his office hours to get the full experience!

This class is difficult because of the weird schedule and assignments. He likes people to "break out of their shells" through the medium of writing papers. It was interesting and slightly refreshing, however, and I feel that I have learned quite a lot from his intro class. That being said, I would avoid him for more difficult classes.

Absolutely TERRIBLE! I have never been in a more frustrating class. You will not be able to stay awake. It would be easier to listen to Ben Stein talk for an hour. The class was supposed to be about ethics but he only taught about philosophy. Kent State, if you're reading this, either fire this guy or make him retire!!! To sum it up, it was bad.

Horrible teacher. I did better when I didn't go to class. He jumps around to different subjects and believes that you need to be religious to be ethical. He often brings in unnecessary BS from his comparative religious thought class. Slept more in class than taking notes. Very dry teacher. Stay away at all costs!

I had him for Ethics. It's easy to see he is passionate about the subject, but he isn't the best teacher. Though, ethics and theology are slightly more difficult fields of study than logic or history of philosophy. He is decent, but I wouldn't recommend him.

I struggled majorly at first but improved remarkably throughout the semester. So if this happens to you, don't lose hope! The more recent philosophers you cover later on should be easier to comprehend. Projects require openness, honesty, and LOTS of writing. The only grades are for 2 projects, 2 quizzes and the final, so they're all super important

Comparative religious thought. I am loving the class, his teaching style is not for everyone. He has a preachy-overtone to his lectures, but is NOT overbearing. Assignments are generally easy as are quizzes. Interesting class. Would recommend to someone with an interest in the subject.

This is a hard class, LOTS of reading, very loosely structured, and you must be willing to apply yourself. That said, it's perhaps one of the most intellectually fulfilling class I've had. He has a lot of personality, and isn't afraid to call out the "Everyone is right" mentality, which I greatly respect.

Very nice man and very helpful, but the assignments are asinine. Encourages students to embark on experiences instead of teaching from a more academic standpoint. Don't take his religious classes expecting to engage in the usual university-type learning. And I don't mean that in a good way.

Very nice guy, but didn't learn ANYTHING. Class discussions and texts were very insubstantial and weak. Assignments/tests were easy but pointless. I love the subject, but I hated the classes I had with him. At times he's excruciatingly boring, and at times he's overly excitable. He's definitely smart, but he can't teach well at all.

A lot of haters have commented. Wattles is not always easy, but if you participate at his level, you'll find an interesting discussion. He is knowledgable and pretty open-minded. I actually found the "touchy-feely" aspect refreshing, as a lot of profs are cold and don't teach about spirituality. He shared some personal beliefs but didn't preach.

Worst teacher by far. Rambles on and sings about socrates dressed in cowboy boots?? Papers (which he loosley defined what he wanted) were given better grades if you had a messed up life where you've had to make life altering decisions, and used continuous run on sentences. would not recommend this teacher.

He was very difficult to understand. Be prepared to take a meaningless sucky class with a man that talks about eroticism and looks like skeleton. This class sucks beyond belief. I'm an art history major and felt this class had nothing to do with my major at all.
