Such a gem. Makes the subject so interesting and the way he teaches / gives tests really makes you retain the information. Studying is necessary but he isnt an overly tough grader. Almost every quiz had extra credit. Cant recommend enough, makes a 7pm class actually enjoyable!

He essentially helped me continue with History as my major. He is one of the most chill professors, and is totally understanding towards life issues that may get in the way of certain assignments. Take his class, he is one of the best professors here.

Mr. Carlton is very knowledgeable in history. Hes kind and approachable; always care about us and want us actually learn something from history. Exam can be intimidating as his study guide covers a lot, but youll be fine if you go through it and find 80% of the answer from books. Pay attention in class and review study guide then youll be fine.

His lectures mainly consist of putting a black and white picture on the projector and then talking about the picture. His study guides confuse more than help as he includes EVERYTHING about EVERY topic for that chapter while the actual test only covers a few topics at most while the questions are worded completely different than whats on the guide.

Carlton is truly passionate about teaching History. His classes are incredibly informative, he can answer most questions thrown at him. If he is unsure he will admit it and make sure to find out the answer before the next session. If you truly want to learn History, I would highly suggest taking him more than once. Use his study guides!

Mr. Carlton was my favorite professor at UNLV. Not only was Carlton highly intelligent, he was approachable and wanted each of his students to succeed. Contrary to most of his colleagues, he employs a very logical approach to history. He is a real historian, not some pseudo modern historian constantly whining about isms and imperialism.

Mr. Carlton is probably one of the best professors at UNLV. He is compassionate, considerate and really knows his stuff. I had to drop his class because of my course load but Ill be taking it again in a future semester. Mr. Carlton is a brilliant professor and a gem to UNLV.

Honestly one of the best professors I've had at UNLV. I will remember his humor and kindness for the rest of my life. HIST388 & 386A were fair and 386B was the toughest in my opinion. Biggest advice to non-history majors like myself: STAY ON TOP OF THE READINGS! I made flash cards for every test & it really helped me with memorization.

Tests are all on the book, so you need to read it. Gives study guides for the tests and extra credit. A couple of presentations, but nothing formal. He's a very nice and knowledgeable man.

His lectures and videos he presents in class is very helpful. I never read the book even though he wants us to. He provides notes and study guides which really help in the exam. There are articles you have to read and discuss in class. The whole class is mainly him lecturing so be prepared to feel sleepy.

Great teacher - took him twice. He gives assignments and projects to make up for bad test grades. His upper division course is way less harder than the 102 course in my opinion, he makes his upper division courses more fun since we have history background. He gives you the grade you earn with participation and work overall, your grade is up to you.

Carlton is a favorite. I took 388, 386B, and now 386A. I love history. Thanks to him, I love it and understand it more. He served in Vietnam but he doesn't trumpet it like some do. Rent the many recommended books (they are cheap $2 to $5). If you want an A, impress him with your presentation and class participation cuz tests graded subjectively.

Prof. Carlton is creatively absorbed in course material and has comprehensive knowledge of US military history. He is a gifted lecturer and makes the course interesting with videos and class discussion. He spent a lot of time outside of class helping students. The exams consist of matching, maps, and short essays. There is extra credit on exams

I loved this professor. Mostly lectures and a lot of reading (you need the book he tests straight from it), but adds personal input and makes it interesting. Summer course was 2 tests, a presentation, and class discussion. READ the books! Attendance and participation was a necessary. Would definitely take again

Mr. Carlton is one of the nicest professors I've had at UNLV. You can tell he really enjoys what he teaches and is more than willing to answer questions. There is a sign-in sheet for attendance. One presentation, one article review, and three tests which consist of matching, short answer, and maps. Would definitely take 386B!

Prof. Carlton is very helpful and nice. The course content is boring (unless you really love history), but it is easy to understand. There are only about 2 exams per semester, but he gives you a study guide to help you prepare. This course isn't hard, but the lectures can drag on sometimes. Overall, it's a decent class.

I took his 386A class this summer and for such a condensed time frame he had everything very thought out. He was always ahead on making changes to his review sheets that are always thorough. His lectures are great and supported with interesting videos. His reading selections are good as well. Be prepared to study for the quizzes though.

Great instructor. Took his HIST386B course a few semesters ago and had a blast. Great history course that helped fill requirements for related areas and humanities. He KNOWS all of the information, and if he doesn't know something when asked a question He follows up with the student the next class. Very thought out class so there's no wasted time.
