Worst prof ever. So much busy work it's not even funny (lecture summaries due every week). If you've taken chem in HS, come to class for clicker points and do other hw and then read from the book, and you'll do fine.

Relatively incompetent and of ill character. The course materials are disorganized and irrelevant, and he does not demonstrate knowledge of appropriate behavioral boundaries.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Never organized in class. Makes mistakes regularly, confusing everyone. Unwilling to help. Goes over class time every lecture. Didn't learn a single thing from him, passed the class from the book and high school chemistry notes. Avoid like the plague.

If you're at Purdue taking a chem class, it's going to be hard regardless. HOWEVER, I took adv. chem during my senior year of high school and struggled a ton through this class. He isn't very clear, and lectures are pretty boring. Avoid taking the class in general. But if you have to, Grutzner is not my recommendation.

I didn't think Dr. Grutzner was a bad professor at all. Contrary to other comments, he was actually pretty friendly in person and even made bad chem jokes in class to lighten the mood. I would highly recommend taking his class for CHEM 111. Easiest A i've received in a chem class (but you DO have to EARN it!)

Horrible. Just horrible. He was a dreadful teacher. He was convinced that the problem was that 200 some students were all stupid and didn't even consider the fact that he could've been the problem. The Chemical Engineering Advisor said that she has never seen so many people drop or fail this class than the year he taught it.

Tough tough teacher. He knows what he is talking about but he rambles and I found it tough to follow along... He failed 90 ChE's out of a class of 220. His exams where tough but it seemed like some people could manage. He did rob me of every bit of my love for Chemistry though... I felt slightly taken advantage of

I don't know what everyone's problem was because I loved the class, learned a lot, and it's a class where you can't slack off (which a LOT of classmates have been) and then wonder why they're failing. He's very nice, but doesn't baby students - but offers Extra Credit and study sessions that students vote on. LOVED THE CLASS, taking 112 for sure.

Disorganized, terrible notes, will not answer a question without asking you one in return that gets you absolutely nowhere... Does provide some help for tests, but that's only necessary due to their difficulty level.
