Professor Turbeville is great, he is very knowledgable and passionate about geology. Workload is pretty easy just some chapter quizzes every week, three tests and the final. Offers extra credit questions in all the tests and the final along with an extra credit assignment. Study for the tests, he outlines what will be on it in class.

This was a great 6 week summer class, very straight forward. If you read the chapters and take notes, it's the easiest A ever. There are no official tests, just small quizzes at the end of each chapter and 3 section writing assignments on posted videos. Geology was a really cool and enlightening subject!

Took the online lab. I thought the labs were pretty easy. He gives three chances to take all tests. The only bummer was his virtual labs/writing assignments were a lot of work for such a low unit class. The work load was better suited for a 3 unit class.

Weekly assignments and exploration activities, one midterm, and one final. Turbeville is a pretty easy grader; if you finish the assignment you get a good grade. The lab activities were a lot of fun. The professor responded to emails quickly. My only complaint would be that I never received my extra credit points (I passed with an A+ anyway).

took Geology 101 & the lab with him. both were very simple/easy. I recommend attending all classes b/c it is easier to understand the concepts when he explains it. very funny and lenient. tests are not the easiest so do not slack on them. print out & review course notes.

I was hesitant to take a geology class because rocks. I am so glad I took it with John as a professor. He was so awesome! The class was simple, do your work and pass. The reading really isn't too bad and the labs are do-able. I thought it made it way more interesting than what I was expecting. He gets back to you quickly as well.

Professor Turbeville is awesome! Really inspirational and hilarious stories (because he was an actual geologist). Very laid back personality, but the test are tough if you don't pay attention or come to class. STUDY and do the HW (not a lot). Makes you consider becoming a Geology major. Really cares about his students. Take him for Geology!!!!

Prof. Turbeville is amazing. He is very smart and care for his students. Can't be late for assignments , hw, quizes due. He allows three times to retake quizes, tests so the score will get higher. The best of Prof. in Mira Costa college.

His tests are really hard and he doesn't five out a study guide for the tests you just have to listen to his lectures. He makes you get the book but he doesn't even go over anything in the book. His lectures are pretty boring.

This class was extremely interesting. Structured around 4 sections, with 2 online assignments and 1 in-class test for each. Make sure to print and use the course notes, and read the textbook as well. Test reviews were definitely helpful. The Honors part consists of writing and presenting a research project. Lots of fun and learning overall!

I didn't know what I was getting myself into with taking an honors geology class but Professor Turbeville made it one of my favorite classes this semester! It's clear that he really wants you to succeed and is very lenient when it comes to grading. Highly recommend!

Really chill and funny prof, but the lectures can be boring. The class isn't hard and he makes it more interesting than what it is. Print out and read the notes he made for the class, they're exactly what'll be on the test.

This course was exciting, interesting, and educational. From opening your lab kit to performing tests to learning all about erosion. Never a dull moment. I would recommend this instructor's course for your GE requirements or even just to learn about rocks, minerals, and coastline erosion. Course is designed for success if you do your part.

I thought Geology would be a really dry subject but he made it really interesting. He is a geologist not just teaching it so has a lot of experience in the field. He is a laid back teacher but has reasonable expectations. I recommend the honors class if you can get in. After this class you will never look at rocks the same way again.

For a business major who works, all I cared about was passing the class and getting an A to keep my GPA up - Turbeville made that no problem. There were no surprises, no long drawn out assignments, etc, etc. Everything was to the point and applicable to the course material. Turbeville was quick to answer any questions I had and really helped.

Great, mellow, easy going. You have to do the work and do well and try, but as long as you put in a good effort, it is a fun class and is passable if you keep in touch with him and stay up to date every week

He helps you out so much! I was getting a d in the class because it was a little hard at first but I asked questions and it was pretty simple after that i made a kick ass study guide from lectures and slides with a guided study (he tells you what to study for) and my grade went up to a B on the next test! he's pretty laid back and easy to follow

Prof Turbeville is a great guy that really cares how you do in the class and tries to make sure you understand the material. There is a lot of dry material in this class. He understands that and tries to make it as painless as possible. Don't miss class because his lectures lets you know whats important for the test. Hmwk is time consuming but easy

Only take if ocea is your major or if he's teaching online. He doesn't like to lecture. Tests are hard. Busy work took way too long to complete. Textbook helps out a lot on the hw. Take home portion of the written final was legit though. His class demands too much time for a general ed requirement. I say look elsewhere unless its your major.
