If you hate lectures and reading don't take this class. She doesn't follow the syllabus and bounces around when reading. She reads to you all class and if you don't participate, you won't pass. If you don't read you won't pass. If you don't follow along you won't pass. She has 4 graded assignments, and if you fail, you won't pass the class.

Great Prof! heavy lecture, 2 assignments 2 exams. Prof Budz wants you to use your own idea from what you've read from the reading material. Participation matters. No ideas from outside sources. She doesn't give notes you have to make your own notes.

There are 2 take home essays (each only 250 words) along with a midterm and a final which is an in class essay. The class itself is not demanding as the only HW is to read. The class can be boring if no one partakes its very discussion heavy. She is a reasonable graded but she wants you to think on your own; do not use sparknotes for papers!

Great prof! Don't buy the textbook; everything you read can be found online. It is important to know what is due every class, but if you are in a pinch, read a summary but prepare a question in case she asks you what you thought. Papers are super easy, and exams will be easy if you show up, pay attention, and take notes. Would take again!

Comment:

I have had Professor Budz for AmLit and Short Story. I enjoyed and learned a lot in both classes. Her classroom is a laid back, yet thought provoking environment. She wants discussions of the stories to happen. Overall, she just wants us to take something away from the stories. Whether it's a life lesson or a new developing a new reading skill.

She's a great professor! 90% of the time they are like one or two short stories a week. She's sarcastic and as long as you attempt the reading you're fine, even if you only raise your hand to say you were confused. She expects it to be a conversation among everyone, not just her lecturing which is great. She cares that you understand the material.

Her papers are short, but exams tough. Exams for American Lit. were open response and she doesn't give you a prompt or anything to study, she just wants you to come prepared with something to say about the reading & is open to what you write about. She is sarcastic but also very nice, funny and open to questions and helping students.

Very nice lady. Really laid back. Gives assigned readings every class but don't stress over it bc we talk and go over it in a lecture every class. Tests are hard but if you just THInK about what you've read and give an effort, you will get a good grade.

Professor Budz is a very laid back, patient teacher who allows you to express your opinions and doesn't get hung up on format and test grades. After several failed attempts at literature classes in the past, her easy going style allowed me to finally complete (and enjoy) a literature class. I am grateful for her wonderful teaching style.

Prof Budz is really great, I'm surprised that she has a low rating. I took Short Story with her and I thoroughly enjoyed her teaching style. If you participate a decent amount and get on her good side, she will remember you which is never a bad thing. She's helpful and very respectful towards her students.

Best teacher EVER! You only need 2 Extended/graded discussB in the whole class the rest of discuss.are required particip/not graded. 3 papers that she helps you with. I love reading thanks to her. Read Syllabus to understand her expectations. Ask her anything she is happy to help! Show you care about the class she will show you in your grade.

Took her class online. Discussion posts are huge, as well as three papers. Quick grader who puts thoughtful comments on work. Sometimes I wasn't really sure what I got wrong, but I got a good grade anyway so I wasn't too concerned. Takes some time to do the work, but worth taking online.

I took her for the short story. Phenomenal woman! She makes class interesting and engaging. I find myself always wanting to raise my hand and participate in her lectures because they just draw you in. She could have chosen a better classroom to have the class in... but she rules, take her if you get the chance, you won't regret it!

Best teacher ever. She taught me how to read and to enjoy reading. I was actually in the process of looking up her address to send her a letter when I came across this website. Her strength is taking hard headed know-it-alls "me", and showing them how truly amazing and beautiful literature is. I am jealous of those who get to take her class.

Dr. Budz is by far the best English professor that I have ever had! She is inspiring and passionate about literature and it shines through in her teaching. I took Budz class for Women's Lit and Am. Lit II -- she is an awesome teacher who doesn't use percentages to determine your final grade so if you slip up once she doesn't penalize you for it. Shes a bit of a feminist but it just makes the class all the more interesting. I suggest taking her classes, its worth it!
