Comment:

I learned how to format a cohesive essay, but felt too overwhelmed by the amount of projects required to be able to fully flex that knowledge. Very left-wing classroom, leading to awkward attempts at discussion and a mostly silent classroom. Strict attendance policy: I have attendance accommodations due to a disability which she would not abide by.

Comment:

I absolutely love Professor Funston. She is an amazing woman. She is so insightful and puts in some funny jokes throughout the lecture. If everyone engages in the conversations, class will go by so fast and you will have a blast. Dont question her rules, she makes them very clear, do your work, participate, and youll be golden.

Comment:

If you take Funston's class be ready to work hard. She teaches at a 400 class level and she assigns TONS of papers, most of which are totally pointless. Beware of her library projects. They are a ton of work, and weigh a lot on your grade. They are also pretty pointless. If you want to pass the class, be ready to do a lot of homework.

Here's the thing: if you have time for a lot of hw, then you'll be fine. If you're taking 18 credits or more, I would avoid this class. If you can find the time to put into the work, then it's very rewarding to get good grades. Funston has no mercy, so if you decide to take something with her, take the time and work really hard!

Comment:

Dr. Funston is a great teacher. She really explains everything she wants you to do very clearly. She hands a solid chunk of work out but, it definitely has a purpose. Come to class, participate, and do all the work and you'll be fine. She is very funny and likes to joke around. The syllabus might be intimidating but, she softens up later.

I took her during my Freshmen year and she was unbelievably hard. The assignments felt like took too long to get done, didn't have enough time to finish them, and there were too many things she was giving us all at once. She was also very strict about many things, it didn't even feel like a 100 level course but more like a 300/400 level course.

Funston I found was really not that difficult. As a lit major, you just had to do the readings, come to class, pay attention and contribute your thoughts to class. I have NEVER seen her play favorites in my class. I love her. Great personality, VERY smart.

Personality wise she's awful, her voice is monotone and her laugh is dreadful. One of the hardest classes I've taken yet. Her class gets easier if you actually ask for help and become a favorite. If you don't, then good luck.

I think what is evident with these reviews is that you can be on her bad side, or her good side. As long as you do your work, participate in class, be on time, and don't eat in class, you will be on her good side! Honestly, I really loved her classes. I highly recommend her. You will learn a lot and hear a new perspective in the works you read.

I have waited until my senior year to rate Judith Funston. I am graduating with a 3.7+ yet I didn't pass comp 101 the first time because Judith Funston has no idea how to teach a 100 level class. Her grading reflects that of a 400 level class. If you are a freshman beware. She played favorites like NO OTHER. She made me feel like a failure.

she is the worst professor i have ever had hands down. very strict. does not connect to the class at all. Has a very negative and condescending rhetoric during lecture. Don't expect to pass at all if you cut. assignments for a 100 level class are more fit for a 400 level. Wont accept late assignments if you're even a second late to class. Awful.

I have now taken Prof Funston for two classes and I enjoyed both classes a lot. She can be a tough grader, but if you see her in her office hours she's very willing to help you on your essays. I think the classes are easy as long as you show up and participate. Out of all my professors so far, she is definitely my favorite. I always recommend her.

To everybody saying she is a hard grader don't even listen. I took literature 100 with her and It was fun and amusing. If you do the readings you will have no problem with the homework, quizzes, and analysis. She was extremely energetic in class and loves to laugh. However you do need to participate regularly and don't be late and don't skip class.

Honestly she is a horrible professor and I will not recommend anyone to take her class. She is rude and disrespectful and not fit to be a professor, Her grading is ridiculous and unreasonable. No matter how much work you put in she is not going to give you what you deserve. She needs to retire and not teach because not everybody good at everything

One of the worst professors I have ever had. The class is ridiculous and so difficult to understand. Half of the work is so pointless. Shes a super tough grader and if you don't like to talk in class then just forget passing. Absolutely do not recommend at all to anybody.

Worst class I've ever taken. I enjoy english and consider myself a strong student, however she is the worst grader I've ever experienced. I have yet to pass an essay, and she enjoys laughing at people and giving them a hard time. No drinks including water in the class, don't ever think about being a second late, and do the readings.

Comment:

She's not that good. Treats a 100 level class like a 400 level. Pop quizzes are given every day so you must know the assigned readings by heart. If you did the hw but are even 1 second late, she will refuse to take it. Can be a bit unfair at times but can sometimes be real nice and accommodating. Don't fool around in this class. You'll regret it.

One of my favorite professors here hands down. It's a tough course, but the "quality vs quantity" debate applies here. BEWARE OF LIBRARY PROJECTS!!!!! It's an easy grade as long as you answer the questions. If you need one on one time, she's more than flexible with her office hours. You will become a better writer by the end of this course.

Dr. Funston is a very intelligent woman who knows what she is talking about. She is a very hard teacher but it seems like some of the assignments she gives out are not necessary such as library projects for comp 101. Expect to have an assignment due every week but she seems to care. Also her laugh is frightening.
