In Dr. Fiene's class, participation is very important! There are 2 big papers, a midterm a final, and a group project. There are also weekly readings and graphic organizers to fill out for these readings. Dr. Fiene is really passionate about education and this comes across in her teaching. She will be hard on you because she wants the best for you!

Although I like Dr. Fiene as a person, I would avoid having her as a professor and advisor. Her assignments are very confusing and she is particular about her grading. She is difficult to please. She also knows absolutely nothing about advising. On the plus side she is very willing to help outside of class. And you should definitely take her help.

Not current in her knowledge of current trends in teaching reading and knows nothing about writing or balanced literacy. Preachy. A lot of smoke and mirrors--meaning she talks a lot and very passionately, but it's all surface. There's little depth to what she says. Disorganized--is never prepared for class, and answers personal phone calls from her

For all the people who complain that she picks favorites, here's the deal: Raise your hand, contribute to the discussion, share a personal experience as a teacher or former student, and complete the assignments (which should be a breeze if you're in this profession). If you do, you WILL get a good grade from her. She likes the talkers, so TALK! :)

She definitely plays favorites. She can be rude sometimes and it's only to the people who she doesn't favor. I didn't like her and would not take her again. If you are not one of her favorites she forgets your name and doesn't show that she cares.

I have to agree somewhat about the favoritism thing at times, but in her defense, she WANTS you to SPEAK UP in class, and she has little tolerance for those who don't contribute anything. Classes are largely conversational, so put in your two cents right away, and you'll get right on her good side. She's super nice, approachable, and knowledgeable.

Dr. Fiene is an amazing professor! Her passion for education, particularly reading, is clearly seen in her classroom. The info she provides not only comes from experience, but is also researched-based. At times it seems she has favorites in the class, but all in all, I would take her again in the blink of an eye.

She was a good teacher and fun...however, she played favorites a lot of the time and never really took the time to get to know other students in her classes. It was a core group that were rude and annoying and never let people talk in class because they were too busy talking about their inside jokes...oh well

Dr. Fiene is an awesome professor, mentor, and advisor. She is so helpful and easy to talk to. She expects a lot from her students but gives endless support and guidance. Definitely my favorite professor at Elmhurst!

She is a great lady and a great teacher. She can be a little flighty at time, and can get off topic quite a bit. But even her off topic conversations are usually insightful.
