Overall good, considering the school. Feel like some things were really missing. Didn't come away with sense of clarity on any part of the subject. Why isn't teacher better at explaining or lecturing on the topics? Was like he was lecturing or doing things for the first time, but has been at it 20+ years. Expected more. Expected better.

This is not high school where you can expect a passing grade for showing up. This is showing up for all the classes, doing the reading, doing the homework (all of it), doing the projects, participating in the field trips where you are expected to think on your feet , stay hydrated, and keep an eye on the other guy. To pass the class. Refreshing!

The way this professor teaches involves both National and West Texas examples of geology. Interactive at times, he really gets as excited as his students are about geology. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification of terms... he can use some terms without first explaining them.

The Good - He knows science, and if you are willing to put 50+ hrs a week into his class he will make you usefull as a scientist. The Bad - Lots of Presentations, Papers, Field Trips, and Maps, make a 4 credit hour class a full time job w mandatory overtime. If you take his class don't take anything else with it.

He does indeed "toss a box of rocks on the table and leave" and considers it teaching. Sometimes we would get samples that even HE didn't know what they were (like raw Wollastonite). The mandatory field trips for this class were pushing it. But then he gave out inch and a half thick packets of worksheets for us to carry around and fill out while hauling around in 110 degree weather in the desert...I don't reccomend this guy unless you're the terminator.

He will throw rocks out on the table but you have to get into the class to understand what he is doing with you. Try not to let yourself work against his teaching style, instead work with him and I know it will be fun and learning will be accomplished. Overall, a good professor and would recommend him to anyone that has some interest in geology.

This guy thinks throwing a box of rocks on a table and leaving is teaching.
