This class is difficult but not impossible. Yes you have to read the entire textbook and coming to class is not mandatory but there are pop quizzes. Take good notes from lecture and stay on top of readings and you can get an A.

Comment:

If you have to take him, good luck. He has the hardest time staying on topic for what we actually need to know. Talks about his experiences which really don't help you at all. Class is so boring, he just stands there. Will not prepare you for the exams. They are hard. Must read the book to do somewhat okay. One of worst classes I have taken here.

He spends all the time in class rambling about his own experiences instead of actually teaching the material you need to know. Hard tests with advanced material that isn't really covered in class. Studied for each exam and still did poorly. No attendance but there are pop quizzes and homework he gives in class. Says he is going to curve at end.

He can be interesting and has a lot of knowledge with real estate for sure. The problem is in class you never learn any material that is on the exams or really at all. Theres a massive curve at the end of semester which is nice but not enough to make up for the hard exams. If you take him be ready to study your book a lot and still get a low grade

The exams are impossible. Even if you go to lecture, you wont get the information you need to pass the tests. Even if you read the book, the exam is just much more advanced material.

Mark Risk is a terrible professor. If you read the book, you should be fine but no one gets anything out of his classes. You think you want to do real estate until you sit in his class. Not fun at all

Comment:

Mark's investment and appraisal classes are more technical than R/E principals. Expect projects and tough tests in both classes. Near the end of the semester there are a LOT of HW assignments, but he does give a nice curve at the end of the year. Overall, this class is not any harder than any of the rest in WCOB.

Read books, take really good notes and show up in case he gives pop quiz. Overall he is very nice and helpful, curves grades and gives bonus points.

I am a lot more interested in real estate after taking this class. He has a story for every single thing he teaches. Class is absolutely mandatory because he has random quizzes and his tests are mostly based on the lectures. There's a lot of material so tests can be difficult, make sure to take really good notes. The book was very helpful for me.

He is very smart and is very knowledgeable in the field of Real Estate with a lot of real world experience. Unfortunately, his class is set up very poorly, he gives random pop quizzes during class so attendance is expected. He doesn't use a powerpoint during lectures and there is no notes online to use. His tests are very difficult based of lecture

I become much less interested in the real estate field after taking Mark's class. He presents the material in such a boring way. There is really no good way to prepare for his tests. He will lecture on basic material, and test on super advanced materiel. I made all As in my business and finance classes, and a C in Risk's class.

Mr. Risk is a good teacher, he has real world experiences so he knows a lot about the material. He tells real world real estate stories. I became more interested in real estate after this class. Take good really good notes and go to class

Good class if your interested in real-estate. Very informative lectures comprised of stories of experience especially dealing with real-estate in NWA.Test are hard and contain most questions from notes. Take good notes, or you'll fail the course. Book and internet are pretty much useless in studying.

Tests are almost impossible. the questions are hard and misleading. 10% is from the book and 90% from lecture. The teacher knows his stuff which is why it's difficult cause he thinks we catch everything from lecture. Good teacher but grading structure needs improvement. He curves but if your looking for an easy elective for get it.

Class can sometimes be dry, but the information is useful regardless of what your major is. Risk knows so much about the profession and has illustrative anecdotes. Tests are very difficult, but he grades on a curve. Study notes, not the book.

DO NOT TAKE! He is not a professor and is only a local real estate agent that the university hired, because of this he is the WORST at making tests! He will ask questions he never covers but "assumes" is knowledge. He has ruined my GPA and my future scholarship!! AWFUL! I put in about 5-7 hours of studying for every test and still have a bad grade!

Amazing teacher! This guy is a really good at what he does and yes he is a bit tough but it is manageable. I made a 98 on the first exam without breaking a sweat. I made an A for the course and yes i did have to read the book and did have to study but if you show up to class like you SHOULD then you will pass but if you don't you will be burned.

Holy crap! I have been a straight 'A' student until this class. I study for at least 6 hours for every test, attend every class and still I have made a C on every test. I'm quite upset to have ruined my 4.0 because of a business ELECTIVE.
