I loved her classes. I had her for Race, Gender, and the Media, in addition to a law related class. I had her in 2005-07. She became a mentor. Her lectures demand you to think outside the box and requires you to put in the effort. I took the class seriously because I enjoyed the material as well as her passion for the subject matter. I did well.

Only took this class to fulfill the ethnic diversity requirement. Able to keep my attention usually, only because when she lectures she engages the class and there's group discussion. Somewhat interesting topics, but completely pointless class. Essay and short answer tests: kinda hard. I was able to get an A without studying ever.

This class was awful. Prof Yowell's tests are impossible. I studied for 8 hours and only managed to get a low B on her tests. The work is boring, she talks for the entire class period, and her offers to help are useless.

Her attendance policy is insane. She isn't very clear. Her class work is analytical, her tests are factual.

Don't give any opinion she won't agree with. Or else kiss any good grade in that class goodbye!

I had a court case in the middle of this class. She provided me with "where to find" info. & I was able to represent myself, put people on the stand, ask the right questions regarding local ordinances, and had the judge smiling b/c of my profesionalism. I learned all of this through Yowell's class & won the court case!

The WORST!! instructor I have had at NAU.. For the sake of your GPA and your sanity stay as far away from her classes as possible!!! Way too much pointless buzy work, does not teach anything test related in class, required wearing a suit to all projects for no reason at all!, rediculous amounts of pointless essays. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL INSTRUCTOR!!

I have very conflicted feelings about Marsha. She puts an enormous amount of time into advising students and helping out with clubs/organizations, but her teaching style is a total trainwreck. If you go to her during office hours, it's best to e-mail in advance for an appointment, or she'll be totally off-guard and stand-offish.

As a teacher, Dr. Yowell is horrid. She COMPLETELY wastes our in class time and then tests over HUNDEREDS of pages that have not been discussed in class AT ALL. She gives assignments, doesn't explain anything, and then tells you how you sucked, rather than actually TEACHING. She says she wants to help, but is abrasive and unapproachable.

She's a nice lady who cares about education, but unfortunately, she's totally loopy and all over the place in terms of her teaching style. Ironically, she's not too great a communicator and sometimes makes incorrect assumptions about her students. It's a marginally-OK class if you have to take it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it.

take something else if you are taking this class just for the cultural understanding requirement way to much work involved. It's as if she thinks her class is the only class you have.

Marsha Marsha Marsha. Unforgetable in every way. Her class and style of teaching is unique, challenging and prompts you to think on your own. Though time consuming and lectures can be long and depressing - very rewarding when it is over - whew!

this was perhaps my most disappointing class of the semester. it starts out seeming very interesting and fun, but it's all downhill from there. she seems like she wants to help students, but doesn't really know how to interact. too much busy work.

I would rather commit suicide than take this class. Her intelligence make NAU look abominable, and her inability to spell psychology makes you after taking this course. understand why she stopped being a lawyer. A lobotomy might be needed after taking this course.

Nice lady, but has a hard time interacting with students. She wants to help, but she's not good at listening to student concerns or feedback. Can be very frustrating, and then apologizes profusely for it.

Her teaching skills are completely by the book, not very many in the course actually understood her randomness.
