This woman knows her stuff and knows what she wants. Only she makes you work for it; but it's only because you've got to be ready for the real world. Her tests are not that hard. If you study for your stuff, then you should be good to go. There are times you have to apply yourself to the point your eyes won't open anymore (meaning you're tired)

Go to class and you'll get an A, unless you are a complete moron. Be able to reiterate the paintings on a slide ID list and it is that easy. MAE major, and this has been my favorite class at UAH.

Very intense and passes on that intensity to students. I had zero interest in art before I came into the class. Learned a lot and now I appreciate art much, much more!

Like most professors do the work and study and you will be okay. Do not skip the classes, do memorize image IDs. Learning all these dates is killing me. Tolerable but not pleasant. Not a fan of technology and has a cringe inducing love of comic sans on hand-outs.

Take her if you're passionate about the subject. Tests do cover material from lectures but its literally you NEED to be invested in the subject. You cannot fumble through. Know the artists, know the time periods, KNOW THE artwork. Great lecturer but her tests are brutal short answer essays all the way through. Extra credit on each exam but hard.

This class requires you to study, a lot. TAKE NOTES IN CLASS. The test questions come exactly from what she says in class. She gives half credit and sometimes extra points for well written answers to the essay questions. She also gives you lists of IDs to know for every test on the first day. STUDY THOSE! ALL OF THE IDs WILL BE ON THE TESTS.

No study guides,extra credit(too much work for her). Tests are rapid fired on overhead and SUBJECTIVE. We aren't studying, our high schools didn't teach us anything, etc. Most dropped class those that stayed made Ds and Fs. Ummmmmmmm, Yessssss, Ohhhhhhhhhh to filter out. Expects you to learn in 4 mos what she learned in 20 yrs. Take Dr. Stewart!

Not the best class. Lectures are really interesting and engaging, and it's good if you're actually interested in the material. However your only grades come from exams she makes them and there's hardly any material from the class on them. Blames students for bad grades instead of taking any responsible. Great lecturer - horrible grading process.

Gives you slide IDs and vocab list for the entire course from the get go. Puts slides on the screen and then spouts off info about them-- all info is important, always. Tests are fast, she will not go back if you miss something. My only issue was that she wanted exact, complicated answers to very vague questions & got mad if you couldn't produce.

Make sure you sit in the middle or up front. Have your materials ready for class and take notes. NO powerpoints. her slides consist of pictures and she talks about them. Her tests arn't that hard as long as you PAY ATTENTION. Study the terms she gives you as long as you SHOW UP TO CLASS and TAKE NOTES you'll be fine... not an easy A class though

Okay,so I used to dislike history with a passion but this is absolutely THE BEST class I have taken in my whole life!Prof.Vines is great!She is clever and makes history make sense.I look at buildings,sculptures,pictures,and just plain everything with respect.Tests are challenging but listen to her and what she says to study,you will not go wrong!

Vines isn't easy and she tells you that upfront. The person who says that you don't know what to expect on her tests, must've missed it when she said the entire identification of works of art must be memorized.In this class there were 4 exams and a final, each worth 25 points, meaning if your grades were high enough you could skip the final. I did.

Good teacher, loves her subject, engaged with students, fair grader. Go to class, take notes, study the handouts, read the book...just like any other class...and the class is easy. This is not an "easy A" class. No effort = fail.

Vines is very intense. You should take very thorough notes and study them ad nauseum, because she doesn't budge a bit on details. Her tests are like the mental Olympics and if you like being challenged they are definitely for you. I enjoyed her class and found that as long as I participated I did very well.
