Do not disagree with this professor if you want a good grade. He talks like he wants an intellectual discussion, but if you disagree he'll berate you and grade you down on your projects. He espouses communism and basically hates what our country was founded on. Don't take his class unless you want to waste your time and be spoken down to.

did not like this teacher. He enforces his beliefs onto you and if you dont agree you arnt going to get a good grade. i worked hard in this class and didnt get the grades i deserved. it literally is impossible to get an A in this class. He bring up interesting thoughts but his grading is impossible to succeed. doesnt realize we have other classes

Waterstone has interesting ideas however if you want an A in his course you should be prepared to regurgitate every one of them back to him. He begins the class under the false promise of debate and different viewpoints, but don't be fooled he is out of touch with students, assumes everyone is rich, is presumptuous rude and condescendingExpect a B

Attendance is mandatory. I enjoy his sense of humor, he is quirky. You need to participate, you cannot get by sitting in the corner. He is an excellent teacher and I have enjoyed his class, lots of reading though. Average level of difficulty, I expect to get a "B". Good experience, but be prepared to be pushed out of your comfort zone.

I took this Sp 2008. On sabbatical now, but supposedly will be back. The good: very interesting material. The bad: Waterstone hates his students. He presupposes that they are all privileged and clueless and therefore treats them with contempt. He openly berated students. It was an uncomfortable atmosphere and got in the way of learning.

I have taken all grad courses Dr. W. my adviser & on my committee. He is brilliant- quirky sense humor, self-admitted lefty Marxist, & committed to teaching. He actually read paper & left comments feedback on each page. Dying breed who teach critical thinking. I'm neocon(Hayek)& never felt threatened just challenged to think, write, speak better!

This guy is a genius. He is a heavyweight. If you are intimidated by somebody who brings politics to the classroom, go somewhere else. Be prepared to step up. Waterstone is the most influential of all profs at the u of a for me.

Attendance is mandatory, and even the best paper is only given a 90, so it is almost impossible to recover from one bad grade. If you want an A, go to every class, agree with what he says, or make sure you have a STRONG opinion and are prepared to argue, and put effort into EVERY paper. Just know this class IS work.

Waterstone is very intelligent man and great professor. He speaks to you, rather than at you, which makes for a very interactive class, so sleeping is out. Don't let the class title fool you as won't learn anything about geography. The coursework is heavy and usually has you questioning George Bush. "A's" are hard to land, but attendance and a soli
