Light reading of one book, you turn in questions on what you read every class. There is a paper due, but it is broken down into parts over the semester. The only issue I can see is if you do not sign at or above ASL IV. Ask him for clarification on the paper during or after class. He responds to email quickly and sends out the PP every week.

Professor Carter is so great! He is adorably animated in class, easy to talk with and encourages group discussions. He has a great perspective on Deaf Culture, but is willing to admit that his isn't the only opinion out there. You won't get most of your assignments back, but if you do the reading you'll be fine. Take this class if you can!!

"Professor Mel," is a link back to an earlier Deaf community. Take his class while he's still around. He's always an easy "A."

Maybe he WAS a good teacher, but I've taken him now for 3 classes and each is the same: everyone is confused and the class unorganized. You won't get graded projects back and you won't get a good grade. The class is chill, but don't take it if you care about getting good grades.

LOVE HIM! He is a very special professor. I learned so much about the Deaf community and culture. I totaly recomend him. You have to read all the books front to back. Don't count on the reviews to help you, the reviews will only have about 4 or 5 questions on the test, but know the aswers just in case but READ the books. They are so interesting :)

As a Coda, I appreciate him so much! He truly gives you a birds eye view of the awesome Deaf World. He teaches from a community, culture, and a connection perspective. I believe that hearing students who feel threatened need to realize that the shoe is on the other foot now. They are entering into the Deaf World.Isn't that why they are taking ASL

Mel is the nicest man ever. I think that he is very patient and gives everyone the opportunity to show their capabilities. I don't think at all that he favors deaf people. He has been my professor for the past two years and I enjoy his classes.

He is totally against the Hearing. He seems like he's all nice, but then he only gives Hearing B's and below while the Deaf Students get all the A's for doing NOTHING!!
