Comment:

Take Rachlin's class if you get the chance! I took her French 44 and it was hard but as long as you participate in class, you will do well. We had 3 papers (our final is a paper not an exam) each of which she lets you redo and gives you very good feedback. She is happy to meet and class was always very engaging. I improved so much!!!

I love prof Rachlin! She is so kind and really passionate about her job, which makes class really fun. She even invited our class to her house for a French dinner. She is my French major adviser, and I can't wait to take another one of her classes next semester! She is super chill and has appropriate expectations for your language skills.

Rachlin is as very demanding professor. She was not flexible on different interpretations of the texts. It was her way or the highway. Really really nit picky on papers, almost as if she is looking for a reason to give you a bad grade.

Comment:

Rachlin is very intelligent and likes to contribute and drive discussion. Very straight forward about her opinions, and about her opinions of you. Available for office hours but is sometimes late/busy/forgets. Good to go over paper ideas with her to see what she wants, though her feedback is kind of rhetorical and not always specific. Good energy!

Amazing! Had her for Core 3 and as one of my thesis readers. I looked forward to her class so much. She really challenges you to think, and she's curious and enthusiastic about everything! Great attitude! Inspiring! I've been chronically late to everything all my life and I think I was only late to her class once; she made me want to push myself.

You'll be fine if you took 4-5 years of french in high school. Lots of energy, funny, cares for students. When explaining some grammar things, she can be a bit boring. Other than that, she is not boring. Homework consists of a good bit of online exercises. You'll have to study a little. Class will be easy if you're good at french. Hard if you suck

Her other classes may be great but her Core 1 class was miserable. She talks the entire time and fails to actually facilitate a productive discussion. She was more concerned with making sure we all agreed with her and making sure that everyone felt "comfortable" than with actually having a conversation about important issues. :/

She's my adviser as well; she's devoted to her job, thrilled to meet during office hours, and curious about everything under the sun, which makes her a great teacher and adviser. Highly recommend her for class--you might not learn everything on the syllabus, but you'll be able to swear like a pirate! Can be a tough grader on small things...

Madame Rachlin is the best! She's super funny and really laid back. She's amazing at explaining French grammar, and will explicitly let you know if you pronounced a word so that it sounds like a French swear word. She loves everyone.

She's the best. Lets you come late to class if it was "in the pursuit of love" and explains literature better than any other prof. at Scripps. Definitely worth repeating, also heard she's a great advisor. Love her!

One of the nicest people I've ever met! She's very fun and energetic. Can be incredibly disorganized, and without Claire Bridge for logistics Humanities Institute would completely fall apart, but Rachlin means well, is very supportive and personable, and you can safely confide in her if need be.

i took humanities institute her first semester as director and i think she may have gone a little overboard w/ booking events, so we're very very busy, and there are some kinks to work out, but she's great to be around--amusing and kind, has a 'just one of the girls' air about her which makes for a more egalitarian classroom discussion

Very exhuberant, her energy will rub off on you and make the class more interesting. Semi-tough grader on papers, but my final grade actually tunred out to be higher than I expected. I would recommend Prof. Rachlin, especially for the funny stories she tells about her childhood in France.

Very approachable and loves class discussion. However graded me down on my final because she didn't agree with my analysis. She couldn't point out any mistakes or inaccurate comments, but just didn't agree with my paper. I didn't bother to protest the grade - life's too short.
