He's by far the worst professor that I have encountered at York University. I love chemistry with a great passion, but he managed to make me never want to attend the class. He's horrible marker and can't teach because half the time he makes stupid jokes about chemistry.

Absolute worst experience of my lifetime! Does not help. Does not care. Makes rude, mean unnecessary comments. Is not clear on what is needed or wanted. I have never experienced testing at this magnitude. Stay absolutely clear of this class if you want to keep your sanity. No one should ever have to deal with such nonsense.

Comment:

Great teacher as long as you use your brain. Some say he is a tough grader but I applied myself and never struggled. The required reading was incredibly hard to digest, even for an avid reader. But his writing assignments are fun and really make you think. He really does care, and if you put thought into your writing you will do well.

Horrible teacher, would not recommend to anyone. Quick to assign work but takes a very long time to receive grades back. When you ask him for advice, its almost like he is belittling you. Not a good professor at all. I wish I would have saw this site and his reviews before I took his class.

Took his online class for modern social problems and had interest before in learning the material. But now I struggle with it. He is a difficult teacher who's tests are hard as well. Two essays as well as 90 questions is a difficult task to get done in 90 minutes. Watch out for his class and the overabundance of work he gives each week.

I would NOT recommend this teacher to anyone! His grading is extremely hard to the point where it is ridiculous. The material that he assigns is insane- he acts as if the class is suppose to be your life. He is one of those teachers who struggled through out his college years and takes it out on his students.

I really enjoyed class with this professor. I especially liked when Dr. Hovik talked about the history of psychology and the personally background of individual researchers. Since it's an intro course, there is a lot to learn and memorize, but that's something that can't be avoided (which is the point - school is about learning, not getting an A).

He's one of those teachers who thinks that you have nothing else to do in life beyond his class. Gives a mountain of work weekly and gives no feedback, not even timely grades. Wish I had dropped earlier, I resent paying for his garbage.

Honestly, to me, this class was self-taught because he couldnt teach the material! Goes off on tangents and says "um" alot. His inability to teach makes him an ineffective teacher! Quite disappointing for a Sociology professor!

I took his class online, overall I thought he was fine. His tests are extremely difficult but he grades on a curve so it isn't that bad. All of the other classwork was fair. You definitely need to read the books and follow his outlines and instructions and you will be fine. I was taking additional classes and was able to get the work done.

This teacher is very difficult. I took this online and the amount of the work was unbelievable! He works against you. He doesn't tell you what you do wrong, instead he sends posts stating that the class needs to step up to his standards. You'll never please him, no matter what. Beware, have must pass all parts of his course of you get a F! BEWARE!

This professor thinks we have no other classes or commitments, or else he wouldn't delight in assigning TONS and I means tons of various projects(reading, 2 essays, 2 discussion posts)every week. I am a straight A student and this class is bringing down my gpa. His tests are ridiculous....most likely you will fail. Never take him!!!

EXTREMELY difficult. Assign., projects, ect, are VERY unclear and he's condescending if you ask a question, not to mention the 50pgs of reading, 2 assignments, and 3 db posts per week-sometimes double. By far the hardest most frustrating waste of time and effort class I've ever taken, and I'm pre-med!!!

I had Dr. Hovik a few years ago for a soc class and it was the terrible. In person, he is a mess. However, I just completed his online Mod Soc Problems class and found it to be VERY good. GREAT choice to teach online! Very interesting stuff!
