Onno is incredible. I had him for both ENG 124 and 256, and I've loved both. People say he's a tough grader, but I haven't found him to be terribly difficult. He responds to emails right away, and is extremely helpful when it comes to questions about essays or looking over drafts. Such a kind and funny man, I'd definitely take a 3rd class with him.

Comment:

Onno is a tough grader (like many on here said), but he genuinely cares about improving your writing. He will make sure that you know how to improve your essays and he is not unreasonable when it comes to missing classes, asking for extensions or giving help. Plus he brings his dogs to the school, has movie nights, and bakes the class cookies.

Be prepared to have all of your papers ripped to shreds - but in a good way. Onno's a tough grader but if you follow his suggestions, you'll really see a marked improvement in the quality of your writing. Material can be difficult to get into sometimes, but once you really get engaged, his classes have a huge payoff. He's also a literary genius.

Good professor. Is clear about what he wants in papers, and very open to anyone's ideas... encourages participation and usually manages to keep the class interesting. HE DOES NOT GIVE FINALS in 150. Grades fairly. Will take him again.

most critical teacher/professor on my writing that I've ever had, may write a commentary about 1/4 the length of your paper and still give you a B+, the man's a genius writer/literary scholar, really long and exhausting final exam

I never knew what Canadians were really like! Its so refreshing to know that the college is up to date on the whole diversity thing!!! WHOA!...In the words of a friend aboot him, HEES SWEET!!! not sure if i agree, i think swirlees are pretty sweet tho!
