Dr. Gilbert is one of the best professors I have had at Mason. She cares so much about her students and wants you to feel welcome not only in her classes, but also in her life.

Gilbert was great! She's very approachable and will help in any way she can. There is A LOT of reading, a novel a week. Only 2 comparative essays though with a few quizzes.

This woman is among the most incredible professors that I have ever had. She is in love with the subjects that she teaches and she will make every reading enjoyable for all. Class discussions are great because every reading is relatable in some way to our lives- this is the best way to teach and the best way for students to learn. Awesome!

Comment:

Prof. Gilbert is one of the best teachers I have had while attending George Mason. She is genuinely interested in her students and loves to foster group conversations whether heated or intellectual. She is a fair grader and if she sees that you are putting in effort that means a lot to her. Attend class and you will have no problem.

Comment:

Professor is socially awkward and demonstrated targeted interest in select students. However, the class was not difficult. Lots of reading, a few quizzes, two presentations and a paper for the final. I would recommend the class to anyone who has a high interest in Paris. Professor is very passionate about the subject.

This is the worst professor ever! Very unclear, unfair, doesn't give back grades and doesn't abide by the system. Gives evaluations before the final paper is given back because she knows once everyone sees the unfair grade, it will effect her evaluation. Clearly, she already knows shes unfair and doesn't care about it! DONT take her class!

Dr. Gilbert is an incredible teacher with a true love for teaching. She is one of the better GMU professors. She is absolutely willing to help you out in any situation you are in and you will get a lot out of her class. I would definitely recommend her!

Not a hard teacher. Just read the material, show up to class, maybe even speak once in awhile. Downside is that she will make fun of students for mispronouncing French words.

this class was reading every night, then discussions during class w/2 oral presentations and some pop quizzes from the reading. there are two papers, one 3-4 pg & one 6 pg and an in class final. shes nice but seems to be a stringent grader though because i always went to class and participated; got A/A+'s on all my work only to end up with an A-...

Readings are interesting, as are class discussions. She will talk with you about assignments without making you feel like you're wasting her time. She's a challenging professor, but not ridiculously difficult. If she can tell you're putting thought into the course, you're more likely to get a decent grade.

She really cares about her students.There is an interview paper,three film critiques which are easy,you choose from a list of videos she has pre-chosen,a group project,and research paper.It seems like a lot,but it really isnt as much as it sounds,its all very easy.Just make sure you go to class :)

I didn't think that she was a fair teacher. Once you left her good side it was over. I would hope they would use someone else in the future to introduce people to WMST.
