Peter was awesome! I'm so glad I got a chance to have him as my first year prof. So sad that he retired already. I was really hoping to have him again. Made you passionate to do your readings so that you can engage in conversation with him

Honestly, I love him! He makes me laugh everytime I go to class. He knows his stuff and is super enthusiastic about it! However, if you don't "get" his personality you will probably think he is a jerk... he is not though! He is amazing and really helped encourage my love of the Elizabethan/Jacobean period of literature! Awesome lectures!

This class was well worth waking up early for, but a fair amount of work. He marked hard, and I didn't find his feedback too helpful, but he's a very good lecturer. NOT very well organized though, so this isn't your class if you prefer well-planned lectures and overheads. Hyland's class was fascinating though, and I worked hard for my A.

very narrow minded, he would ask for your opinion even though he had no interest in anyones opinion other than his own. Made outragous comments about his students. I will never take his class again.

Comment:
Hyland loves Shakespeare, and with this love he is able to give excellent and detailed lectures. On a negative side concerning this love though, he is very narrow minded on his views and opinions pertaining to the subject, and if you basically don't say what he wants to hear, your mark will suffer.

hyland is an excellent prof, always on time, always ready for discussion, and to help us out when no one has read the text(yet). I would reccomend a bit more discussion on the essays, but overall, a fabulous lecture every time.

Dr. Hyland. Great Prof. Extremely funny and is very interesting to listen to in class (most times). Hyland needs to understand that everyone is not a expert as he is in English and understand everyone is not going to share the same perspective as him on a essay/test and broaden his marking process

Quite funny and knows the material very, very well. Also seems interested in student opinions and interpretations without being condescending. Though he does enjoy asking the class about literary allusions they would obviously not know then feigning amazement at their ignorance. Highly recommended.

wow, does he love to talk. I mean, from start to finish I don't think he pauses for a breath. Just listening to his lectures shortens one's breath. It's a good thing he's got only good things to say ... please, oh please, read me Shakespeare, rather than forcing me to read it myself. He's a charmer

Prof Hyland is evidently interested in his classes, students, and the material. This interest manifests itself in lectures which tend to convert rather opaque subject matter into an engaging 50 mins. Also, his amicable countenance brings a level of warmth which is ideal for his small lectures

Very fine professor. Knowledgeable AND fun. Sensitive, witty, and does not play favourites--except maybe Jonson over Shakespeare. Good lecturer with a voice of uncanny loudness-- sit in the back if you like but it's no use; you will still learn.
