Challenging! He works you hard, demands excellence, and expects you to master the material. If you're looking for an easy grade, look elsewhere. If you want to be treated as an adult by a professor who expects you to perform at a graduate level, then I recommend him. As for his politics, he's teaching English, not political science!

He is probably the most difficult English teacher at The Citadel; however you will also learn the most from him. You have to go to class and stay awake, and also read 8 pages or so a night, but this is college. His tests are hard, but he goes over everything in class that will be on them so if you take notes you are golden.

The worst teacher I have ever had. He enjoys making students miserable. He does not keep office hours and cannot clearly explain the text.

Dr. Mailloux's class (World Lit II) was difficult but I have never learned more. Take advantage of this opportunity to pick a scholar's brain and actually learn something. For those of you complaining about reading 4 pages a night (you're in college!!!) and not being able to sleep in class, it's no surprise that you didn't do well.

Excellent teacher and course. What I like best is that he doesn't look down on you as stupid and then grade you as such. He has high expectations but also faith that you will meet and exceed them. Always willing to help, just ask him.

I've taken this professor for two graduate courses. First semester I heard a lot of complaints, but I did not agree. He is tough, but is an extremely intelligent and enlightening individual. He encourages you to do your best and if you prove your intent, he respects you. Details are important. If you want to understand humanity, take his classes.

People who whine that he's too hard want to be handed A's like candy. Acts tough the first week until people drop, then is a great guy and teacher. He allows you to think for yourself and doesn't just feed you mind numbing garbage like so many English classes do. Always willing to help and take questions. I enjoyed getting to know him.

Professor Mailloux teaches the most difficult course that I took at The Citadel. However, you will find that you will learn a lot in his course. Also, his enthusiasm is contagious when discussing his favored works. He is a great professor. Certainly isn't a GPA-boosting class though. Took him twice, his classes were my only two b's those terms.

He is by far my favorite teacher. He's extrememly thorough and makes dull reading more exciting by putting it in the context of when it was written. Don't take the class if you aren't willing to pay attention or do the work, but if you want a class where you actually learn something and where you have to challenge yourself, he's the man.

It was World Literature II and he introduced us to a lot of new and interesting text. The only thing I wish is that we had spent more time on Proust; other than that, a really good teacher. I know a lot of people in the class weren't crazy about him, but to me he was really helpful and I think he's worth taking. Maybe not for everyone though.

Excellent class. The Citadel is very fortunate to have this guy. Interesting reading and discussions. Very thorough. Just listen to what he requests (not difficult) and you will have no problem with your grade. I am wondering if the majority of the responders here should be in college at all. Your protests reflect poorly on the school.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This is possibly the worst professor I have ever had to deal with. I went from an A in English to a D. There is a quiz every single class and papers due every other week. This man should be teaching english majors at Harvard. All he talks about are the books he's written. Your opinion is always wrong. its his way only

Worst professor ever. I went from an A in english to a D. There are quizzes every class. Papers are due every other week and have to meet this man's crazy standards. He teaches English 102 on the 400 or 500 level. Absolutely no sleeping or talking or eating or drinking or having your own opinion. It's his way or the highway

Was he difficult? Yes. Was he demanding? Yes. Do all of you want a degree from The Citadel without having to work for it? Yes. Maybe if you all complained a bit more they could do away with the fourth class system. Suck it up. Romantic Poetry and Prose was the best class I ever took during my years at The Citadel.
