Took his class because he was the only teacher that taught it. I should have waited to take the class until after I transferred. Lectures were boring, grading was inconsistent and I learned absolutely nothing from this guy.

Comment:

Super monotone voice and you probably wont be engaged with his lectures. Pretty cool that he is really into the subject but if you can't understand him and you probably want to study a little in the books. If you're looking to just not get a strict professor in this subject and an easy A, go for it but I wouldn't recommend him for a teacher.

Super boring lectures. The tests do have about 4-8 listening questions so if you miss lecture, you're out of luck on those. If you don't know much about music, like renaissance, classical, etc, then you need to study. Concert reports weren't too bad.

His lectures are based on the exam and he gives a study guide for his exams and reminds you to read the text book and listen to music that went over his class for extra credit. Not a bad class, can be a little boring at time but then again it's school.

Lecture based class for sure. I fell asleep many times, as hard as I tried not too, so it's a good idea to drink some coffee before class. Nielson really cares about music and his students, & he often is understanding and gives extensions if you talk to him about it. Not an easy A, but definitely a class I would recommend if you care about music!

I love the subject, but he is soooo boring! Expect to take a lot of notes. He isn't into using technology (i.e. blackboard). Book isn't necessary. Choose a different teacher.

I have never been in a more boring class than this one. I go to his class, listen for five minutes, and then I sleep. His tests are all covered on the online practice quizzes. DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!

Half the class failed the course. Nielson cares deeply about music, and wants students to SHUT-UP and PAY ATTENTION! Lots of listening to music of dead guys. Questions on test covered in two sentences in book -- READ IT! Not a class where you just scribble notes. LEARN HOW TO LISTEN!

lectures out of book so dont need book. helps a lot if you know music already. everyone else gets C's on test, but just listen to the lecture and you should be able to get an easy A. 4 concert reports and attendence boost grade a lot at end.
