It is not required to attend class, but you basically have to go to each one in order to receive a good grade. 3 grades total, all essays. Take good notes and READ ALL THE BOOKS and you should do fine.

You really need to attend class. He doesn't post anything online and he doesn't use a powerpoint. As long as you go to lecture and pay attention, tests are not hard.

Collins has pretty good lectures but he sometimes draws out thoughts/pauses for a while which I found a little annoying. He's pretty nice, he doesn't take attendance BUT you need to attend to do well in this class. His exams are mostly based on lecture.

Do you have to read the textbook to get an A in the class or are his test just based off lecture?

Best Professor I have ever had! Not the easiest class ever, but you should pull out a B with a little effort. A if you're on top of your game.

Great lecturer. Easy to listen to, loves his job. Best history teacher I've ever had. He almost seems to reminisce while talking he's awesome. Class is great.

Interesting material. Great lectures. Only way to do well is go to class and take detailed notes. Doesn't use blackboard either but only 3 grades so it's not hard to keep up with them.

He's got that old dude swag. He can literally pull off any outfit, and he tells the best side stories.

Professor Collins is the best lecturer I've ever listened to. He is energetic, enthusiastic, and incredibly knowledgable. He seriously loves his job, and that's clear. If you go to lectures, you'll do OK, but the reading really helps. He doesn't give grades, but his TAs are fair. I can't say enough good things about this man. Take his class!

Collins is a great lecturer. He knows what he's talking about and only talks about what you need to know. He's very enthusiastic about what he teaches. The exams are essays but you get them in advance. The TAs grade everything so you never have contact with him.

This was one of the most rewarding courses I've taken thus far. Prof. Collins is absolutely amazing; even if you find history boring, you won't with him. The course is pretty easy; just read the selected books and go to class and you'll do fine. Course is graded from 3 essay exams (given possible prompts beforehand). He even shows documentaries!

Prof. Collins was absolutely amazing. Easily among the best college professors I have had. He really knows American history and conveys it to the students so well, all while being incredibly funny and conversational. Collins' class is a must-take for any history major and for any Mizzou student in general. You will not be disappointed!

Dr. Collins is one of (if not the) best professors I've had so far in college. His lectures are incredibly interesting and you will want to come to class.

Amazing teacher, pretty funny, and fair tests. Only time I've ever seen a teacher get a standing ovation on the last day of class. Go to class, take notes, do readings, and prepare for essay tests. A must take for history people

A great professor! He doesn't use power points or blackboard, but he still makes the class interesting. He makes you genuinely enjoy history. There is a lot of reading, so be sure to keep up. However, his exam questions were more on the lecture info. There were only 3 grades (2 exams & an essay), so be sure to do well on each for an A. Take notes!

Took Reagan class. Collins is definitely conservative (you can tell by his lectures, etc.), but he is a good professor. Exams were 1 essay and IDs. He gave you 5 essays 2 study & u had to prepare 4 all 5, & only 1 was picked. That was the worst part. Otherwise he's funny & interesting. Also have 2 give presentation in class.

BEST HISTORY TEACHER AT MIZZOU! He teaches two classes and I have taken both and have loved them! The lecture hall is graded easier versus his smaller class but I have enjoyed both!

Very professional, but fun at the same time. He once brought a toy lightsaber to class in response to criticism of him not using technology enough in his lectures. Clearly has an extensive knowledge and passion about the subject he teaches and wants nothing more than students to learn. If Robert Collins doesn't make you enjoy learning, nobody will.
