Comment:

Narcissistic intellectual who had no interested in the ideas of his students. For a good grade you had to feed back his own ideas with small permutations. As well, sleazy in gender related matters.

Comment:

Judges students from the first day and does not change his mind. His comments on papers were totally unhelpful and I didn't feel like I knew how to write a better paper after his class. He really likes Shakespeare, which is great, but he isn't really open to new interpretations of the material. Sometimes condescending.

Roger's class was great. I learned a lot, worked really hard and loved the books we read and the papers I wrote. I heard awful things but this was one of my favorite Reed classes, and I didn't even major in English.

Heard lots of bad things and read lots of bad things here, but I think Roger is just absolutely wonderful. First, I'm a man, so no worries about preferential treatment in that regard. Second, Roger was so very kind and supportive. More importantly, however, he is brilliant and phenomenal at leading our conference.

Roger is brilliant! I have no idea what these people are talking about. He REALLY knows his stuff, and he's also masterful at running a conference. he asks provocative, meaningful questions, and he is a wonderful, wonderful man.

One word: RETIRE! Worst class I had at Reed. He makes you feel like a piece of dirt and picks on the weak ones and seems to enjoy watching them squirm. I think he means to be helpful in involving everyone and is very passionate about his subject, but so much so it's almost scary. Read the book, take it for what it is, and move on. Something's off

Porter was my departmental advisor. I have never felt so unimportant as when he signed off on my major plan, etc. He was 100% different when I eavesdropped on a meeting between him and a hot young sophomore ENG major. ROGER: retire, draw your pension and write food reviews and books instead of looking down your nose at the wanna-bes.
