Comment:

Sam has had a profound impact on my studies and is an excellent professor and mentor. He is truly an expert in his field and I would take any class that he teaches. His lectures are valuable texts in and of themselves and his insights in to the films and their filmmakers are complex and profound.

Comment:

He was not a very fair professor, he is very dismissive of opinions that he does not share. Got an idea, if he does not agree, he will dismiss you quickly. Why not send us our finals so we can actually learn from his feedback? He is smart, I learned things, but I would not recommend.

I took his class at Brooklyn College and it is not a tough class if you do keep up with the readings. He does his best to make sure you understand the material if you have trouble and his lessons help apply what you read to various films.

Ishi was amazing! He left me seasick with his pacing around-but energy was captivating. learned more about directing in his class than in any production class. true, he wouldn't suffer silly comments gladly-would just talk right over them. On the other hand, he gave credit to students changing his mind or teaching him something, a number of times.

Led discussions that were stimulated the intellect. His teaching of shot analysis was insightful and opened my eyes to film. I highly recommend this professor.

Comment:

Ishii is the most pretentious professor I've ever had, with the exception of Gustavo Mercado, who unfortunately is not on this site yet. While fluent in his knowledge of film, he is a professor who insists that your answer is wrong if it is not HIS answer. Keep in mind that this is a theory class.

Great teacher who knows his stuff. Loves the films he discusses,making it interesting. Fun to watch hime teach, he may very well explode from too much excitement at any moment when discussing Hitchcock. Dresses good. Take the class.

Finally somebody who you can say you learned from and actually cares that you learn. If you take his class on Saturdays, it's a class worth your time, even on a Sat. He knows his stuff very well.Gives helpful feedback.
